If Lenny Kravitz and Tina Turner had a quirky little lovechild, they would call her Charlie Superfly…Charlie has a voice that is unapologetically unique with an attitude and a personality to match. She has carefully crafted her influences from rock, pop, and old-school soul into a sound that completely distinguishes her from the current crop of poptarts. But even with that distinction, every Charlie song still sounds like a radio ready smash. That’s because she has spent the last two years under the mentorship of multi-platinum producer Matt Wallace (Maroon5) and writing with a host of hit songwriters, including Michelle Lewis, Alex Forbes, Brian MacLeod and Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow). “Charlie rocks,” proclaims Matt Wallace. “She’s worked harder at [her craft] than anyone that I can recall. She is extremely talented and driven and I expect that you'll be hearing her songs on the radio, seeing her on television, and reading about her in the magazines within a year's time.” And Matt isn’t her only fan. Jeff Trott calls her “Superbad”. “Charlie is the female Sly Stone. She’s hot, funny, super talented and completely unpredictable. All of that makes her very exciting!” Alex Forbes says, "Charlie has all the makings of a star: a one-in-a-million voice, an unforgettable presence, and a strong artistic vision.” And Michelle Lewis simply calls her “Badass”. But it’s not all about hit songwriters and platinum productions. Charlie is the real deal and truly delivers onstage. Robert Christgau of the Village Voice called Charlie a “compact ball of fire“ when he saw her perform last summer. “I live for performing live,” Charlie says. “Everything I do is all geared toward that moment I get to walk out there and rock! There’s no place I’d rather be.”Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC, Charlie grew up surrounded by music. “I knew all the words to every Volt, Stax, and Motown song there was before I could spell my own name. And as I got older, it was everything from Madonna to Nirvana. I devoured all of it and put it into my own music. The big pop choruses; the crunchy/riffy guitars; and those killer bass lines that make you bounce up and down in your chair.” Currently working with producer Paul Umbach (artists on Jive, Interscope, Sanctuary and Geffen), Charlie is scheduled to release her highly anticipated debut EP in early 2007. The EP, entitled Everybody’s Sexy, truly epitomizes what it means to live in Charlie’s world. “This record is so me from top to bottom,” says Charlie. “It’s self deprecating, it’s sassy, it’s sarcastic and it’s sexy all at once. It’s pop, it’s rock, it’s soulful, it’s retro and yet it’s still totally modern. But most of all, it’s proselytizing…kids and old folks, men and women alike will get it, dig it and wanna sing along. I’m spreading love and laughter, baby. That’s what I do!” And she’s doing it in a big way. Currently splitting her time between New York and Los Angeles, Charlie is in fantastic position to make a big impression on the pop music scene. We can hardly wait.
