"It's clear these folks are having a helluva time." The New Yorker"…a truly unique blend of guitar licks and operatic vocals that send adrenaline coursing through your veins and makes for instant entertainment." Atomic MagazineThe Maxes serve up a hot dish of original mod-groovy beats, rockabilly and blues riffs, soaring harmonies, melodies you can sing and lyrics influenced by classic American songwriters. In the few years since they formed, the Manhattan-based Maxes have quickly gone from gigging at local bars and coffee shops to hundreds of shows at top nightclubs, colleges, private social events and other venues as well as performing internationally with some of America's most well-known acts. In 2005, The Maxes headlined a show at Central Park Summerstage with an 18-piece orchestra. Their debut album, "Make It Snappy", has sold over 12,000 independent copies since its release in the USA and in the former Soviet Union. "The Maxes" is a 12-song collection of fun, kaleidoscopic late 60’s-influenced pop.www.TheMaxes.comwww.myspace.com/MaxesOfManhattan Maxes Songs | 1. | Stand and Dig It |

Maxes album
$9.58 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, as it mixes up the show tunes, gospel, and Christmas carols with covers of Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses," and a version of "Daydream Believer" that is easily the slowest on record. Boyle sings beautifully throughout, delivering more of the same of what she did in her moment in the sun on television. Those won over by Boyle, ...
| | Paul McCartney Good Evening New York City CDs (2009) With DVD; Digipak
Maxes CD music
$15.64 Unlike its 2002 predecessor Back in the U.S., Good Evening New York City doesn't cherrypick highlights from a tour, it commemorates a specific event: the inauguration of Citi Field -- the replacement for the now-defunct Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played a legendary show in 1965 -- in the summer of 2009. The circumstances may be different -- different enough to lead to a Billy Joel cameo on "I Saw Her Standing There," the piano man returning a favor from Paul, who played at Billy's Shea-closing shows in 2008 -- and McCartney might have two strong albums of new material to draw upon, but as an album, Good Evening New York City plays a lot like Back in the U.S. with a whopping 17 of its 35 tracks shared between the two titles. More importantly, ...

$10.89 Lorrie Morgan is no stranger to the limelight, demonstrating incredible talent as a vocalist -- she began her singing career in her teens at the Grand Ole Opry, was a session vocalist for years, and finally emerged as an artist and star in her own right. Since 1989 she's scored three number one singles, charted with 25 more, and has recorded nine studio albums, the latest being A MOMENT IN TIME, a 2009 gem of an album recorded for the Country Crossing imprint. There are literally dozens of records that have been recorded in the 21st century where artists cover classic country songs. Lorrie Morgan's take on the same thing is worth ...

$13.89 About Roxing Kafe ROXING KAFE , the latin rock revelation of 2005, originated in Bogotá in 1998 when singer / songwriter DANIEL JIMENEZ joined drummer ANDRES ZULUAGA to form their first band, Azul Profundo. Still in their teens, Daniel and Andres gained the recognition of the local rock scene, achieved radio air play, and were invited to perform live for the Colombian division of MUCH MUSIC. A few years later, these two young musicians moved to Los Angeles, California, to start what is now ROXING KAFE, a fusion of the rhythms of their native Colombia and the rock sounds that always attracted them. The band was completed with latin jazz player DAI TAKAHASHI (THE L.A. MAMBO COMBO), and after just a few months of playing in the local scene was nominated for the Best Latin Alternative band at the ORANGE COUNTY MUSIC AWARDS. In 2005, the band signed a management and artist development agreement with MUSA MUSIC GROUP, and with the support of company owner LORENZO MONTERO and Producer EBIUT CERVANTES, the band finished their debut album. The album was recorded between Los Angeles and Bogotá, ...

| | Mavri Magioneza Kalh Orexh CD (2007) (Import)
Maxes album
$14.99 Mavri Magioneza is an e-rock (TM) band from Thessaloniki, Greece, formed in 1997. Their goal is to combine several elements of electronic music around a heavy rock core. The lyrics have a strong political edge aiming at things that most of us encounter in everyday life but few of us have the guts to sing about. They have released 4 albums and played at countless gigs all around Greece, in-front of an ever expanding alert audience.Press Release “Mavri Magioneza: Kalh Orexh”This is the fourth album for the leaders of e-rock, an idiom based on hard rock, which combines, however, several elements of electronic music in a compact package intended for critical listeners. The compositions are once again word-centered, but this time Mavri Magioneza puts its poetics aside so as to speak out. Political verses that bite and do not favour anyone, riffs and beats that kick in the stomach, and an incredible production in four different studios both in Greece and Germany. The album begins as a “gastronomic audio recreational programme”, with “Kali Orexi” (“Enjoy your meal”), a track in the form of prose, which prepares us for what comes next. In “Junk Food (4 Thought)”, a ‘megaton’ riff is mixed with the break beats, so as to clarify the album’s title. Food for Mavri Magioneza is not only the one you put in your plates, but it is also the one that enters your minds. And when food is not nourishing, you end up in a situation like the one described in “Kino Mystiko” (“Common Secret”). This is a song with bittersweet verses, fighting against consumerism and modern labour reality, in a surprising composition with the pre-recorded fragments taken from television, the carefully programmed beats and the hard guitars. “Synthima” (“Slogan”), on the other hand, is a purely political song, which starts like a typical drum’n’bass track, but soon develops into a dynamic e-rock composition with hard riffs and violins! Most of all, the verses ‘pin’ modern Greek (and not only Greek) reality in a notice board for everyone to see.On this occasion, the three following songs make clear references to the modern socio-political setting, as, for example, “Dakrygona” (“Tear Gases”) or “Kinissi Mat” (“Check Mate”), which refer to many of the demonstrations of recent years and to the way each government dealt with them. With huge guitars the former and with sharp riffs and a two bass drum setup the latter, adrenaline has reached its maximum. Then, a pleasant note follows with “Peripoliko” (“Police Car”), a cheerful song, with its ska/punk influences, sending optimistic messages to all those who believe in a better future. You have almost listened to half the album, when another prose (“Diallima Gia Diafimiseis” – “Break For Commercials) puts you in the climate of the anti-commercials that follow, represented by “Glamour”, an ironic song with a pleasantly ...
