For many years, Amy Schugar has been developing her skills as a songwriter, arranger, singer and guitarist. Her talent is undeniable, and her energy, tenacity and never-give-up attitude have benefited many bands and collaborators in the past. Amy has the voice of an angel and plays the guitar like the devil! She has a tremendous sense of melody and rhythm (she can hold her own on her '67 Slingerland drum kit!), and is a skilled keyboardist as well.Amy was a popular fixture on the LA metal scene during the metal days, with her band "Maiden America" that performed regularly at the now infamous Troubadour, Gazzari's and The Whisky clubs on the Sunset Strip. She also formed the hard rock group "Sass", which performed throughout the Phoenix area attracting the attention of local Metal God Rob Halford and her friend Jeff Martin, who always supported her.A chance meeting with, at the time, fellow Phoenix resident Michael Schenker (UFO, Scorpions, MSG) became the catalyst for her long overdue step into the limelight. While attending a concert by one of her favorite artists, Eric Johnson, she was noticed by Schenker singing and playing guitar on the side of the stage. He was impressed with what he heard and saw, and they began their songwriting collaboration in early 2003. The duo recorded the album "Under Construction", featuring Schenker's soulful guitar playing and Amy's magical voice. Amy was a special guest with MSG on their Fall/Winter 2003 tour, showcasing some of the Schugar/Schenker songs with MSG.Amy's boundless energy, soaring vocals and effortless guitar playing immediately captured the hearts of MSG's die-hard fans! Amy exclaims, "I have received hundreds of e-mails from fans wanting me back - The response has been overwhelming and I am very appreciative of all of the fans!" Uffe Cederlund of Disfear takes over lead guitar on "Wishing Well," while Steve Von Till of Neurosis sings on "Cruel Bloom" and Genghis Tron' Mookie Singerman does guest vocals on the seven-minute album closer, "Wretched World." | | Nillah Heart Attack Special CD
Under Construction
$12.65 "Nillah - Heart Attack Special: Taking you higher" by Kurt Hernon (bangSheet) God it sucks trying to be a rock music fan lately. It's even worse if you have to write about it.My guess is that it would be simply dismal to be in a band trying to make rock music these days. Unless, of course, your band played metallic rap - or whatever it's called.Boy would that be neat! But, I am not a big fan of the metal/rap thing, and I don't hanker for slick boy-band pop or over-warmed teen-playmate-sex-sells dance grooves. It's all worthy stuff I'm guessing, and I am thrilled at the success of such trends. But it seems that the money players in the music industry have put rock, alternative rock (no, not the Seattle-blend, pseudo heavy metal rock that stole the term "alternative"), pop/rock, and any other such guitar-based, somewhat melodic music into an old war chest that Harry Houdini himself couldn't escape. Turns out though, that apparently it does not suck being in a rock and roll band nowadays. There are bands in this great big world of ours still playing rock and roll.Seriously.And recently I've heard some pretty damn good ones.I know, I know, it's a bit of a shock...take it easy now...there you go.Now, I kid you not when I say that there is an incredible pop/rock revival goin' on.A full blown, rock and roll, guys and girls, guitars-bass-drums, real people un-sampled, rock and roll world. It's out there...it's nearly surreal as it lurks, waiting to rear up and take its rightful (?) place in the public conscience.Or, perhaps the whole thing, this under-pop movement, will go completely (well, okay, now that I've let the cat out of the bag - you and I know, but...) unnoticed. Nillah hopes it doesn't.For their sake, I hope it doesn't either. It would be distressing for a band of such melodic chops, such hook-powered drive, such "at the fore/leading the pack" type ability, to be left in the dustbin of musical time. Elisabeth Eickhoff, the bassist and vocalist in Nillah, doesn't seem to be too concerned about the dustbin.Quite nobly, Nillah seems to be making music for the unusual reason of simply breaking the "Nirvana hold" on alternarock.Meaning: a return to a clean, melodic sound, smart lyrics, and catchy gigantic open songs. Not that Nirvana were responsible for anything more than being a very good band who spurred a slack industry to fill up the airwaves with pretend-Nirvana, post Nirvana heaviness, and altogether bleak, dull, and uninspiring music, however, the results speak for themselves. "I don't ...

$9.99 X-Ray Press elbows their way from the halls of Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts with an in-your-face traffic jam of post-hardcore aggression and prog rock experimentation. So much for subtlety. BRKN TYPE is a pressure cooker of frenetic guitars, punch-in-face drumming and abstract narratives, likely to be the most epic 15-minutes you will hear anytime soon. You can hear influences in Don Caballero, Chavez and ...
