The second full-length by the Swivel Chairs is power pop the way it used to be a musical generation or so ago: say, between the release of the dB's' Stands for Decibels in 1981 and Cotton Mather's Kontiki in 1997. Unlike many contemporary power pop acts, songwriters Jason Brown and Jeremy Grites have little interest in slavish devotion to trying to replicate the sound of their musical idols. Those songs that do recall earlier acts (the dreamy "All at Once" has a strong Let's Active vibe, not least because Grites' breathy tenor at times sounds shockingly like Mitch Easter's) seem to do so either by accident or by virtue of shared musical antecedents: the Swivel Chairs have no evident interest in being the Rutles. The overall vibe of the album is low-key verging on mellow, but the songs' carefully detailed arrangements, clever hooks, strong melodies, and varied emotional moods, along with neat changeups like the spacy two-minute instrumental "Clockwise," keep The Slow Transmission from sounding like one deadened midtempo shuffle after another. Instead, this is a mature, intelligent pop record that's both a clear step up from the Swivel Chairs' earlier albums and proof that there's life in the pop underground yet. ~ Stewart Mason

Slow Transmission CD music
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. Slow Transmission music CDs
$14.29 "Many Faces" alludes to several things: the many head shots taken forthe album packaging, the variety of musical flavors present, and theassortment of talented contributors to the content of this project. We especially appreciate the participation of Mick Austin and John Ryan(members of the original 1969-72 Seymour Rock Orchestra and FreakCircus). That is one of the beautiful things about this band - theenduring friendships and close-knit relationships that allow thesemagical musical moments to materialize. We hope you enjoy them.Personnel: Allan Gunter: guitar, percussion, vocals Jim Badenoch: drums, vocals Jerry Noyes: bass, vocals John Dalrymple: keyboard, guitar, vocals Seymour Lovejoy: guitar, vocalsWith special appearances by: Mick Austin: lead vocal (Bound for Glory) John Ryan: add'l drums (Happiness Blues), guiro (All Natural Radio) Rolf Sieker: banjo (Wooly Band) Trey Carskadon: blues harp (Dreams That Things Are Made Of) David Chris: alto saxophones (Happiness Blues, Tightrope)Produced by John Dalrymple and Seymour LovejoyMixed by John DalrympleMastered by Kevin NettleinghamLove Seed Records=================A review of Seymour's "Many Faces" CDBy S.P. ClarkeFrom the September 2003 Issue of Two Louies Magazine (Portland, OR)(http://twolouiesmagazine.com)Many Faces - SeymourLove Seed RecordsSeymour are a bunch of old guys who were integral parts of the Portland(Oregon) music scene in the '60s and '70s, before placing their band onhiatus for twenty years, until the early '90s. They recorded an album inthe mid-'90s, this is their second venture since re-grouping. And whilethe average age of the five band members is easily mid-fiftyish, thereis one thing that is plainly evident on this fourteen song album: theseguys still write interesting songs and command the chops to play circlesaround the majority of bands in town.John Dalrymple and Paul Stanton (who goes by Seymour Lovejoy in the bandcontext), two of the band's chief songwriters, founded the originalSeymour in 1969; ...

Slow Transmission songs
$10.25 "A Voice As Unique as Her Origins" “Looking for a new name to get excited about, try Dessy Di Lauro”: Chris Wells, Editor-In-Chief, Echoes Magazine (April 2005). Dessy's recently commercially released EP album, 'A Study of a Woman's Soul' (CrazyglueMusic) is a blend of soul & Latin. To date, three out of five of her songs on the EP, were chosen by Soul music compilations; two in the US, and one in the UK. In January of 2006, DJ John Dean aired a full hour of Dessy’s live performance on his popular UK satellite radio show, The Juice, on Solar Radio. The buzz is already starting in the independent music industry.Dessy is touring the US and Canada with the latest Cirque Du Soleil production, Delirium, with a leading role. Her producer, musical director, arranger, composer, and writing partner Ric’key Pageot, is the musical conductor & keyboardist on the Delirium. In 2005 alone, Dessy and Ric’key have showcased there original music in Detroit’s “Motor City Music Conference”, Toronto’s “Canadian Music Week Conference” & Phemphat’s “Honey Jam”, New York City’s S.O.B.’s Club, The Montreal International Jazz Festival. At that same event, she sang back up vocals for none other than Patti Labelle & The Neville Brothers. Of that experience, Dessy says: “After meeting Ms. Labelle, my admiration for her grew even more, not only as an artist, but also as a person. She is just incredible”. From early childhood, Dessy Di Lauro's parents exposed her to music of many genres, considering her multi-ethnic background. The music of her parents inevitably would later become her own musical influences; soul music (Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder); jazz (Sara Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald); Cuban (Los Van Van, Irakere); and Brazilian (Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gilberto Gil).As she made her way in the Montreal music seen in the early 90's at a young age, she began singing in professional gospel choirs. She also joined the Rn'B/Soul group Co-Soul, singing alongside, Janis "Coco" Thompson (Celine Dion), and Alan Prater a.k.a.Soul-o (Michael Jackson, Cameo). During her time in the band, she opened for singer Mary J. Blige on her "My Life Tour" in Montreal.Along with genius turntablelist DJ Kid Koala (Ninja Tunes Rec.), Dessy was one the original members of the acid jazz group, Bullfrog. ...
