Puddle of Mudd: Douglas Ardito (vocals, guitar, bass guitar); Christian Stone (vocals, guitar); Wesley Scantlin (vocals, guitar synthesizer); Ryan Yerdon (drums). Additional personnel: Tim Pierce (guitar, electric guitar); Duane Betts, Lee Miles, Andrew Berlin, Christopher Jak (guitar); Brian Howes (guitars); Tony Fagenson (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, keyboards, bass guitar, percussion, programming, background vocals); Max Collins (acoustic guitar); Xandy Barry (electric guitar); Tony Battaglia (gut-string guitar); Howard Benson, Jamie Muhoberac (keyboards, programming); Abe Laboriel, Jr. (drums, percussion); Mark Pontius, Josh Freese, Kenny Aronoff (drums); Lenny Castro (percussion); Gabe Witcher (background vocals). Puddle Of Mudd underwent a serious personnel overhaul following 2003's LIFE ON DISPLAY. Drummer Greg Upchurch jumped ship to join 3 Doors Down while guitarist Paul Phillips chose to follow his muse with new-to-the-scenesters Operator. POM founder Wes Scantlin (vocals, guitar) and longtime bassist Doug Ardito keep the Mudd sound intact here, though, moving a bit from the early nu-metal stylings to a more natural comfort zone of raunchy post-alt rock. The solid collection of songs on FAMOUS flaunts track after track of made-for-radio anthems, with Scantlin channeling Kurt Cobain's sneer as it communes with Layne Staley's predilection for sinister-sounding vocal harmonies. Puddle of Mudd aren't bragging with the title of their third album, Famous, nor is its title song a self-congratulatory ironic anthem like Nickelback's "Rockstar." No, as always, Puddle of Mudd are mind-numbingly literal, sneering at the young Hollywood celebs who are famous for being famous -- read, the holy trinity of Britney/Lindsay/Paris -- spitting out insults over a cleaned-up Nirvana riff, one that's been polished with the assistance of hard rock writer-for-hire Brian Howes, who has penned hits for Hinder and DAUGHTRY. Howes isn't the only new name here -- drummer Greg Upchurch and guitarist Paul Phillips bolted after the 2004 release of Life on Display, replaced by Ryan Yerdon and Christian Stone, respectively. There may be new blood, but Puddle of Mudd still sound like Nirvana for Dummies, flattening out all the quirks and danger inherent in that Seattle trio, turning the sound inside out so it supports Wesley Scantlin's blunt, sentimental tripe instead of Kurt Cobain's elusive emotions. That approach helped bring them frat-boy fans on their debut, thanks in large part to their smarmy singalong "She Hates Me," but on Famous Scantlin avoids any icky, nasty emotions in favor of slick soundcraft. This results in an album that's hookier than Life on Display -- thanks in no small part to all the professional songwriters aboard, including Kara DioGuardi, who in no small irony has written with Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton -- but by downplaying those noxious elements of Puddle of Mudd's music, Famous winds up sounding faceless and forgettable. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Puddle of Mudd aren't bragging with the title of their third album, Famous, nor is its title song a self-congratulatory ironic anthem like Nickelback's "Rockstar." Puddle Of Mudd Famous Songs Famous Music Review Average Rating: (3.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews ROCKS This album is great. I would say it is their best. Puddle Of Mudd is obviously influenced strongly by Nirvana and it shows. Songs like "I'm So Sure," and "Merry-go-round" truely capture the alt/modern-rock era that was created by Kurt Cobain. The gut-shoveling vocals on both of these tracks capture this legacy as well as the rythmatic drumming of the guitar strings. Fans of big-hair solos and leather pants may be turned off by Puddle Of Mudds style, but then again, I suppose this album isn't meant for that audience. If you like Nirvana, and aren't to bias about bands that obviously pay tribute to them, then you love at least half this album. Great stuff! POM ROCKS 2 Thumbs Way UP. Love every track on the album. Forceful rock tracks with a few great ballads thrown in the mix. Something for everyone. I feel it is their best album to date. A definite must have for every TRUE POM fan.
P.S Why must he be compared to Kurt Cobain on every album release? I see no resemblance - but then again I am not a fan of Kurt Cobain or Nirvana. Submitted by auburnfan_122 (Skyline Alabama) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.

$13.35 Avenged Sevenfold: Rev, M. Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ. After solidly establishing themselves on the contemporary heavy music scene, Avenged Sevenfold wasted little time with following up their 2005 break-through effort, CITY OF EVIL. The band took a bold step on their fourth and self-titled full-length, opting to produce it themselves--a risky task indeed for such a young band. Right ...

Additional personnel: Alison Dodds, Fiona McCapra (violin); Anya Ullman (viola); James Banbury (cello); Jacknife Lee, Sam Bell (programming); Tom McFall, Chris Urbanowicz, Russell Leetch, Ed Lay, Anne Struther, Dani Castelar, Rob Whitaker, Jackie Wade, Edith Bowman, Garret Lee, Jon Gray, Tom Smith. For their sophomore outing, AN END HAS A START, the U.K. indie-rock act Editors present another set of brooding, post-punk-inspired songs. While sonic similarities to Interpol remain undeniable, particularly in the dry vocal delivery of singer/guitarist Tom Smith, the Birmingham-based ensemble actually leans more towards the expansive sound of Bloc Party's second record, A WEEKEND IN THE CITY, here--not surprising since both albums share in-demand producer Jacknife Lee. Given Lee's knack for pristine, guitar-heavy arrangements, Editors are able to cut loose with a grand aesthetic that is best embodied by the bold opening track, "Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors," which takes cues from heralded shoegazer heroes Ride in its reverbed six-string squalls. Though Editors continue to wear their influences on their sleeves, Smith's earnest, if slightly detached, demeanor and the band's wire-tight tunes allow them to maintain their own identity. To put it plainly, An End Has a Start doesn't have the electricity of Editors' first effort. And let's face it, The Back Room was a tough act to follow -- it was a damn near perfect debut, delivering a compelling set of cathartic, nocturnal neo-post-punk songs. The problem is not simply that there isn't a track on this release that comes close to the visceral, resonant power ...

$13.15 Here's the background ...Bandleader Andy Cauble formed Black Lagoon way back in 2001. After finding Leahanne Woods-Smith, the vocalist he had been searching for for years, the band won Creative Loafing's "Best New Band" award in 2001. The band promptly recorded their debut "Laguna Negra" and went on to receive numerous accolades, as well as perform all over the Southeast.By 2004 the band had endured some personnel changes but still managed a headlining set, playing to over 1000 people at Carnevil 2004 (the big, nationally known, Halloween party modeled after Burning Man). But this lineup, was not meant to be.After an extended period of re-grouping the band began doing shows again in 2007, original drummer Thomas Whitley back in the fold and Cauble's ...
