(1 Customer Review)
Twelve years and four albums into their career, ABSOLUTE GARBAGE is the first comprehensive anthology of hits by the Anglo-American quartet led by pint-size powerhouse Shirley Manson. Since 1995's self-titled debut, Garbage has blended the key attributes of Britpop and harder-edged American alternative rock (drummer Butch Vig, after all, produced Nirvana's epochal NEVERMIND), but their relatively scant output, averaging a new album every three years or so, and attention to songwriting and production detail has made them one of the relatively few alternative rock super groups of the 1990s to remain relevant after that decade's end. The sumptuously packaged ABSOLUTE GARBAGE features 18 tracks, including singles and selected album tracks, as well as the 2007 single "Tell Me Where It Hurts." The DVD version contains all 16 of the band's videos. A limited edition two-CD set adds a second disc featuring 14 remixes by the likes of the Neptunes, Todd Terry, and Massive Attack. Absolute Garbage
$20.09 Although generally not as highly regarded by the critics as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, or the Who, the Kinks may well have influenced far more musicians. The three-chord sledgehammer proto-metal burst of teenage lust called "You Really Got Me," the Kinks' third single and first hit, touched off a garage band explosion, which in turn influenced the rise of punk a decade later. Blessed with an astute songwriter in Ray Davies, the Kinks followed the template of "You Really Got Me" for a couple years, racking up hits with "All Day and All of the Night," "Tired of Waiting for You," and "Till the End of the Day." But Davies had more than one card in his pocket, and he blossomed into a sharp social satirist ("Dedicated Follower of Fashion"). By the time the album The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society was released in 1968, Davies had become a master of elegiac studies in English suburbia. The gender-bending "Lola" was a big hit in 1970 and the Kinks entered the video ...

Absolute Garbage
$7.59 Also available in a 3-pack with FACE THE MUSIC and DISCOVERY.
1976's A NEW WORLD RECORD is both a classic of commercial '70s pop and an archetypal ELO album. From the outer-space synths and rich orchestrations that open the album to Jeff Lynne's meticulous production and Beatlesque melodies, A NEW WORLD RECORD is magnificent ear candy. Both ambitious enough to appeal to "serious" rock fans and ultra-catchy enough to sound terrific on Top 40 radio (the plaintively ...

Absolute Garbage
$15.65 Original album plus bonus tracks and a specially recorded interview.
Leo Sayer's third album continues in the grand tradition of its predecessors, centering its concerns around the lives and loves of the sad and lonely of the British metropolis. The opening "Bedsitterland" sets the scene in a style that wouldn't have been out of place on an Al Stewart album, with lyrics that certainly echo Ralph McTell's "Streets of London" -- "I've slept in the gutter on a summer's day, I've bummed cigarettes in the night cafes." Indeed, later in the cycle, "Streets of Your Town" draws that latter parallel even closer, all but paraphrasing McTell's original lyric to transplant the sorry story to Any City, U.K. The title track, too, has a seedily downtrodden air, celebrating the passing of another year ("'75 is here") by wondering how the calendar can change when the singer's life remains the same. And the vaudeville air of "The Old Dirt Road" celebrates the tramps and hoboes of an earlier ...

| | Robb Jason Aleman Just An Ember CD (2006)
Absolute Garbage
$6.69 With guitar-centered rock, heavy drum beats, driving bass, solos that take you back to past virtuosos, and melodies that stay in your ears, Ontario, California based guitarist-singer-songwriter Robb Jason Aleman plays rock music in its purest form. This is a result of his primary influences; groups like Led Zeppelin, Cream, and Bad Company, and rock roots like the Blues. “My music’s been called classic rock, 90s rock; to me it’s just rock. It’s not laced with alternative, punk, or rap, it’s straightforward rock, just like it was in the 60s and 70s.” He connects us to with his lyrics as they express human emotions to which we all can relate. “My lyrics have been my main emotional vent over the years, especially as I’ve struggled to figure things out in life. I’m sure other people have some of those same feelings.” In December 2005 Robb produced his first record, a six song EP entitled “Just an Ember.” It has been a long time coming, as he also completed a bachelors degree in music business along the way. After several bands and collaborations, ...
