Emerging amid the late-'70s NY punk scene, Robert Gordon was a pioneering rockabilly revivalist. He's been joined at various points over the years by British guitar hero Chris Spedding. Some 30 years into his career, Gordon reunites with Spedding on IT"S NOW OR NEVER, an Elvis Presley homage that finds the pair meticulously recreating the original arrangements and spirit of classic Elvis tunes. The fact that they're aided by the King's original backup vocalists, the Jordanaires, doesn't hurt a bit. Over the years, Gordon's voice has become deeper and richer, and these days he sounds more like first-generation rockabilly cat Sleepy La Beef than some pompadoured fanboy, so he's well-equipped to bring some gravitas to this project.
Robert Gordon put a fist through the heart of the music industry with his 1977 hit “Red Hot," knocking down disco queens, would-be punks, and new wave wannabes with his no-holds-barred take on hot-rodded rockabilly. Now reunited with legendary guitar ace Chris Spedding for the first time in 20 years, Robert is back to spread the gospel and jolt the world again with "It’s Now or Never".

| | Nick Lowe Jesus Of Cool: 30th Anniversary Edition CD (1978) Reissue; Digipak
It's Now Or Never songs
$12.55 Nick Lowe's first album threw down the gauntlet in grand form--a baker's dozen of "pure pop for now people" (which is, in fact, what a nervous Columbia Records retitled the album for its stateside release). Lowe was charting regularly in his English homeland, and though he didn't reach the same heights of chart success in America, several songs have become familiar late '70s/early '80s reference points, particularly "I Love The Sound Of Breaking Glass" and "So It Goes." At the time of this album's release Lowe was also the house producer for Stiff Records (Britain's first independent record company) and Elvis Costello, producing his first handful of albums, as well as touring regularly with Rockpile. This is an auspicious debut, made good upon thereafter by a continuingly engaging career.
On the cover of his solo debut album Jesus of Cool, Nick Lowe is pictured in six rock & roll get-ups -- hippie, folkie, greasy rock & roller, new wave hipster -- giving the not-so-subtle implication that this guy can do anything. Nick proves that assumption correct on Jesus of Cool, a record so good it was named twice, as Lowe's American record label got the jitters with Jesus and renamed it Pure Pop for Now People, shuffling the track listing (but not ...
| | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Speed Of Life CD (2009)
It's Now Or Never album
$15.05 Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest. Released by Sugar Hill Records (who distributes their NGDB Records imprint), the group recorded the set live in the studio. Produced by veterans George Massenburg and Jon Randall Stewart, this set sounds inspired, fresh, and like the NGDB has been utterly rejuvenated. It combines the old-/good-timey feel of their concert performances -- without adding American folk or country standards -- and the poignancy of their best studio recordings. Jeff Hanna, Jimmie Fadden, Bob ...
