Redheaded Woman album
$9.58 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, as it mixes up the show tunes, gospel, and Christmas carols with ...

$48.59 | | Jim Hoehn Deadline Penitentiary CD (2004)
Redheaded Woman album
$18.99 "Deadline Penitentiary" is the long-awaited new CD from Milwaukee journalist/author/songwriter Jim Hoehn, described by one newspaper reviewer as "a master of the rowdy tall tale rendered with novelistic detail." Recorded at Third Coast Studio in Port Aransas, Texas, "Deadline Penitentiary" includes 10 new original songs featuring some of the best musicians Austin has to offer. Bolstering Hoehn's well-known, if somewhat skewed, lyrical style are John Inmon on guitar and Bob Livingston on bass, for many years the heart and soul of Jerry Jeff Walker's Lost Gonzo Band; two-time Grammy Award-winner Floyd Domino (Asleep At The Wheel, George Straight) on piano and keyboards; and Zack Taylor on drums and percussion, brought together under the studio guidance of Larry Joe Taylor. For a career journalist with a musical philosophy of six strings, five fingers, three chords, no problem, Hoehn has carved out a successful niche as a late-blooming performing songwriter. Since first stumbling out of the pressbox, Hoehn has maintained a time-available schedule of dates throughout the Midwest and across the country, drawing an ...

| | Farewood Figures In Shadows CD (2006)
Redheaded Woman music CDs
$11.49 Farewood arose from the decay of the once vibrant industrial town of Meriden. Located in Central Connecticut, Meriden is known as the "Silver City" and is the halfway point between New York and Boston. The members of Farewood grew up listening to mid to late 80's indie rock and post punk. Bands such as Sonic Youth, Big Black, Samhain, Dinosaur Jr, Fugazi, The Cure, The Sundays, and Cocteau Twins were all major influences on the development of Farewood's sound. The bands biggest influence however, came from the Cincinnati band The Afghan Whigs. The Whigs mixture of Soul infused indie rock had a large impact on the members of Farewood and to this day they still considers the Whigs to be the best band to come out of the indie rock revolution of the 90's. The members of Farewood would spend their teenage years going to as many shows as possible, mesmerized by the emotional impact that indie rock had, the band decided to lend their own voice to the continuing evolution of original rock. The environment and the emotional climate of Farewood's hometown plays the largest role in the shifting dynamic found in their music. When outsiders think of Connecticut they may see a Connecticut that gave birth to "trust fund" musicians such as Moby and John Maher. They may see the New York suburbs of Fairfield County where the wealthy continue to proliferate and foster a view of Connecticut that hides what is at the heart of the State. Cities such as Meriden, Waterbury, Ansonia, Naugatuck, Hartford, and New Britain reveal a much different, a much more hidden side of Connecticut. Drive through any one of these cities and you will see the abandoned plazas, the empty downtown centers, the dilapidated buildings, and the disparities between the rich and the poor. The core of Farewood's music comes from being children of working class people. It is in that core that Farewood hopes their music continues to evolve, and shift. And as a result, will continue to shed light on issues facing people living in circumstances where the line between wealth and poverty is always visible; Where escape and surrendering to daily temptations are only a 90 mile car ride Noth or South. Farewood's third album "Figures in Shadows" was inspired by the years in which the band occupied a room at a downtown Meriden rehearsal facility. Being immersed in the desolation of the downtown Meriden culture, Farewood began to explore music that was more about impulse and less about trying to craft a great hook. The landscape of their home environment played an immense part in the dark, soulful, more stripped down sound that Farewood achieved ...
