| | Patrick O'Hearn Glaciation CD (2007)
Sounds Of Nature: Sea Shore Birds
$12.39 Patrick O’Hearn: Glaciation (self-released)It’s been awhile since a disc of ethereal, slow-moving instrumental music (this once would have been called “new age”) has captured my imagination like Patrick O’Hearn’s Glaciation has. Like the glaciers and icebergs that adorn the lovely CD package, these compositions have a spare, mysterious, other-worldly beauty. I mean to pay this release a high compliment when I note that some of this music recalls the most evocative work of Brian Eno, in the way O’Hearn places the instruments in different ambient fields and the way the tunes unfold so naturally and majestically. But far from being just a keyboard/synth workout, this features many other textures, from pulsing basses to electric Hawaiian guitar (recalling Eno’s gorgeous Apollo) to percussion. All in all, it’s a wondrous trip!— Mix magazine, January 2008Glaciation. ...
| | Mike Oldfield Music Of The Spheres CD (2008)
Sounds Of Nature: Sea Shore Birds
$10.69 The legendary British composer will always be most identified with his breakthrough long-play composition "Tubular Bells" and the way it was used to illuminate fear in The Exorcist. The happy truth is that since then he's amassed an incredible catalog of over 20 albums featuring just about every instrumental form but jazz: pop, classical, new age, world music, computer game, film soundtrack, etc. The title of his 2008 45-minute classical-influenced opus Music of the Spheres is a reference to the prolific and eclectic composer's feeling that all music should aim to represent the spiritual or otherworldly elements of life -- something beyond the mundane and everyday. He accomplishes that via the sheer hypnotic beauty of the gentler passages and ...

| | Enigma Voyageur (Deluxe) CD (2003) Special Package
Sounds Of Nature: Sea Shore Birds
$11.55 In 1991, if any musical artist seemed a candidate for one-hit wonder status, it was Enigma. Not that "Sadeness Part 1" displayed any lack for talent, but the hit was certainly unusual. Worthy of his nom du disc, Michael Cretu released the bizarre, sexually charged Gregorian ...
| | Latitude Blue Curve CD (1996)
Sounds Of Nature: Sea Shore Birds
$16.45 Latitude, aka the duo of vibist/percussionist Craig Peyton and guitarist John Putnam, is a little deceptive. Just as they're about to ease your mind into a cool, ambient state of hypnosis, they turn up the electro and natural percussion elements and get your toes tapping. On the multi-faceted Blue Curve, they employ every sound that fits in the outlet, from synth bells to spacey sound effects, to create a heightened consciousness of edgy new age. The melodies, which are somewhere between spacial oddity and pure pop, grow on you through a unique combination of guitars and vibes. Just when the comfort zone kicks in, they send us into an Eastern mysticism vibe that changes the mood from playful to pensive. Somewhere along the line, these two seem to have picked up a few rock and roll records, and these electric guitar drivers are the best tracks. Overall, it's scattered fun, but always unique and entertaining. ~ Jonathan Widran
