| | Arturo Sandoval Live At The Hotel Nacional, Havana 1986 CD Arturo Sandoval Discography of CDs
Trumpet great Arturo Sandoval formed his own band immediately after leaving Irakere in 1981. He was extremely lucky to find sympathetic sidemen of the highest caliber. His group included such outstanding figures as bassist Jorge Reyes, guitarist Jorge Luis Chicoy (both of which would later join Irakere during the 90s) and pianist Hilario Durn (who currently resides in Canada and works as a soloist). The virtuosity of his sidemen allowed Sandovals shows to take on a group focus, as opposed to a band which was formed to simply support Sandovals individual genius. Mara Elena Mendiola, 2006.
Personnel: Arturo Sandoval (trumpet, flugelhorn); Jorge Reyes (electric guitar, acoustic bass); Jorge Luis Chicoy (electric guitar); Hilario Durán (piano, keyboards); Reinaldo Garcia (drums).

| | Mel Martin Just Friends CD (2007)
Live At The Hotel Nacional, Havana 1986
$13.15 Released many years after the fact in time for the 2007 Benny Carter centennial, this swinging 1994 live encounter at Yoshi's in Oakland consists of outtakes from a Mel Martin tribute to Carter on Enja released at the time. But that's for the buffs and scholars to sort out, for these are vastly enjoyably prime cuts in their own right, going beyond the status of mere historical document. From the evidence here, as well as the gigs he played at the Hollywood Bowl during this period, Carter at 87 was still a monster of an alto player -- fluid, inventive, more unpredictable than ever. The rhythm section is headed by another jazz original, Roger Kellaway, who adds his own brand of keyboard unpredictability with one foot ...

Thank You!First Dance is the debut album of consummate acoustic guitarist, composer- Noel Lorica. Jazz Lovers will groove to the fresh compositions of Noel Lorica. He has mastered the style of Wayward Jazz. Wayward Jazz uses the acoustic guitar to wind its way through classic forms of jazz, from the provocative rhythms of Latin jazz while adding the precision of its Asian counterpart to the heartfelt melodies of Smooth Jazz. If you like Peter White or Marc Antoine it's a good bet you'll like Noel Lorica. This collection of 11 instrumental works are truly songs without words. The guitar adds a voice filled with texture and emotion. Beginning with his award winning song " Back in Five", which introduces us to Noel Lorica's vibrant, harmonious compositions and superb musicianship. As the album continues, it picks up tempo with body swaying precision in "Samba in A." Then it takes on the familiar "My Favorite Things" with a most astonishing acoustic jazz interpretation. The journey further transports you to the cool Brazilian shores with the sultry melody of "El Viento". Only to be brought back to pure innocence with the solo guitar of title song "First Dance". At this point, most albums lose passion but "First Dance" only begins to further captivate with skill and soul. Each song in this album has unique character and is worthy of its own accolade. Some diversifying with piano melodies and guitar highlights as in "Forgiveness" & " Scent of Cinnamon". Or "Sarong Bangi" which brings in the swing that ...
