On its third full-length studio outing, 2007's HOW CAN WE BE SILENT, BarlowGirl offers up another energetic set of Christian pop/rock tunes. Consisting of Illinois sisters Alyssa, Lauren, and Rebecca Barlow, the band reinforces its commitment to God through revved-up, guitar-heavy tracks ("Million Voices") and plaintive ballads ("Here's My Life"), revealing an earnest charm that will draw in many CCM fans and secular listeners alike. | | Mark Rivers What About Mia? CD (2005)
How Can We Be Silent songs
$16.45 This is a very close to the heart kind of record for Mark, when Mark moved to Los Angeles in 1985, Eric Zapata, Mia's brother, had just moved there from Kentucky and they became good friends. In the early 90's when Mia was murdered in Seattle Eric wanted to check out the scene where his sister rocked with the band the Gits so him and Mark looked for every lead they could in the case but nothing showed up. Then, from the help of Joan Jett, and other musicians keeping the DNA funds alive they finally got a lead in 2002 and convicted the man later that year. Since, just this year Hollywood people contacted Eric to do a movie about his sisters life, Eric called Mark and asked him if he would write a song for the movie, and that's how it came to life. This whole album took to the let's be happy for what we have theme. Also coming from the writing sessions came "God Knows", "John Lennon", "Children of ...
| | Necrophagia Season Of The Dead CD (1992)
How Can We Be Silent album
$12.25 When a band calls itself Necrophagia, you know that its members are into shock value -- the word "necrophagia" has been defined as "the eating of the dead." The members of this obscure death metal band from Ohio had a mutual appreciation for '80s horror movies, and that interest is hard to miss on Season of the Dead. Some retailers refused to carry this LP because of the gruesome illustration on the front cover, which depicts a gang of ghouls feasting on the remains of a man they have presumably murdered. But truth be told, Necrophagia comes across as cartoonish rather than genuinely disturbing. While Slayer and Deicide took their fascination with evil and the occult so seriously that their death metal really was unsettling, Season of the Dead sounds like the work of young guys who have overactive imaginations and a taste for Freddie Krueger movies. The Krueger character, in fact, has obviously influenced Necrophagia singer Killjoy, who is easier ...
