| | Walter Norris Drifting E Soundtrack CD
Although the pianist Walter Norris first recorded in an avant-garde context with Ornette Coleman in 1959, he is primarily a lyrical player with a fine, pianistic touch. This is nowhere more evident than on DRIFTING, his haunting 1974 duet recital on Enja with the bassist George Mraz. Included are pretty, pointillistic originals like the title track and "Space Maker" as well as lush, exploratory interpretations of the jazz ballads "A Child Is Born" and "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most." On a lighter note, Norris even throws in a little old-school stride display with "Maple Leaf Rag." The 2008 remastered edition includes an extra track, "Falling In Love With Love," recorded in 1978.
Recorded on August 18, 1974 and May 5, 1978.

Drifting E Soundtrack album
$6.09 The title Heavy Metal is somewhat misleading. Sure, this terrific soundtrack from the 1981 animated cult favorite features heavy metal and hard rock numbers. But the title refers to National Lampoon's sci-fi/fantasy magazine on which the film is based. Musically, Heavy Metal offers more than the title suggests, and the songs fit perfectly with their respective film segments. Heavy Metal was originally a double album, but at 62 minutes it fits just fine on one CD. Sixteen songs are contributed by Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Devo, Donald Fagen, Don Felder, Grand Funk Railroad, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Nazareth, Stevie Nicks, Riggs, and Trust; Cheap Trick, Felder, and Riggs each provide two. Most songs are exclusive to this soundtrack. The best-known song here is Journey's ballad "Open Arms." Blue Oyster Cult's darkly menacing "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" is a haunting gem. Devo's ...

Drifting E Soundtrack music CDs
$10.95 On Rock and Roll (1957), listeners are treated to the first LP from the Drifters boasting lead vocals from the inimitable Clyde McPhatter. Although their precise lineage remained hotly contested -- even as late as the 2008 CD reissue from Collectors' Choice Music -- there is evidence of at least two earlier incarnations of the combo prior to McPhatter joining the ranks of Gerhart Thrasher (tenor) and Andrew Thrasher (baritone), Bill Pinkney (bass and lead on "White Christmas"), and accompanist Jimmy Oliver (guitar). McPhatter's top billing afforded a few exceptional solos within -- particularly the opener "Without Love" and "Treasure of Love," and the old-school balladry of "I'm Not Worthy." An additional facet of the Drifters' signature sound -- especially during the McPhatter era -- is the amusing and upbeat "Honey Love" -- which was written by McPhatter and producer ...
