2007 release from Vini Reilly who (as usual) plays most of the instruments heard on these eight tracks, with percussion being handled by Bruce Mitchell. The group emerged at the end of the 1970's punk/new wave scene in Manchester, England with mostly instrumental masterpieces of delicate delight. Reilly's playing is always interesting and provocative.
Issued in 2007, IDIOT SAVANTS presents another intriguing installment in the impressive catalogue of the Durutti Column, aka Manchester, England-based guitar hero Vini Reilly and friends. One of the first acts on the revered Factory label, along with Joy Division and A Certain Ratio, DC nods to its minimalist post-punk beginnings (see the feedback-drenched "2 Times Nice"), while also revealing Reilly's classical and flamenco leanings on the delicate extended solo piece "Please Let Me Sleep." Assisted on some tracks by frequent drummer Bruce Mitchell, vocalist Poppy Roberts, and producer Keir Stewart, Reilly has created yet another album of low-key splendor that fully showcases his resonant and dynamic six-string work.
The Durutti Column: Poppy Roberts (vocals); Vini Reilly (guitar); Bruce Mitchell (drums).
Q (p.97) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Reilly is on magisterial form; Poppy Roberts is the vocal foil he's always needed, while 'Gathering Dust' exudes serenity." Uncut (p.88) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "These songs announce themselves gently, but become insidiously insistent." Durutti Column Idiot Savants Songs Idiot Savants Review

Idiot Savants CD music
$6.69 Ronnie Caywood, raised in Rockdale, Texas, has been singing since his early teens and continued while in College. For many years Ronnie gave up his music to pursue another career, but music was always tugging at his heart. His love of music, along with his talent and fantastic and powerful voice, led Ronnie back into music where he has developed his own unique country style. Joining him now are Joe Blanda on Lead Guitar and Hank Hogg on Bass, who played for Billy Joe Shaver for several years. A lot of Ronnieâs original tunes come straight from the heart thru the lessons that ups and downs of love and life have taught him. Ronnie has unjustly remained one of Country Musicâs secret finds. Although Ronnie remains modest about his music, you can find him performing solo gigs and/or with a band all across Central Texas and the Hill Country, including Gruene, Georgetown, Apache Pass near Rockdale, The Piano Bar Steakhouse in Rockdale; New Braunfels, Comfort, Hondoâs On Main in Fredericksburg, Hills CafĂ© (owned by Bob Cole of KVET) in Austin , Salt Lick Bar-B-Q in Driftwood, and the Hilltop Bar and Grille (also known as âPoodiesâ) in Bee Cave, Texas, the newly renovated Cliffâs Tavern in Rockdale, The Llano Opry in Llano, and Cove Country Opry, as well as many private events and parties. Ronnie has formed a band with other musicians and they have begun playing to a slowly widening circle of fans. Ronnie has been showcased on various Songwriter Nights in Nashville, including the Bluebird CafĂ©, and has performed at the famous Tootsieâs Orchid Lounge. He was recently interviewed on OCRN (Original Country Radio Network) by owner, Larry Simpson, who has been quite instrumental in Ronnieâs re-entry into the music business. Larry has put a tremendous amount of time and effort into promoting Ronnieâs music in the U.S, and abroad. You can hear Ronnieâs music being aired on OCRN each day. Thru Larry, Ronnie met his friend, Mark Trail of Mark Trail Music, who was influential in getting Ronnie out there thru his MTM Compilation CDâs. Ronnie has shared bills with Country Singers and Grand Ole Opry stars Claude Gray, ...
| | Mammoth Leftovers, Relics & Rarities CD (2007) (Import) United Kingdom
Idiot Savants music CDs
$17.55 This is the kind of album that makes you want to bang your head against a wall and scream, "What the hell were these guys thinking?" A gut reaction that should not be misconstrued as to suggest that Leftovers, Relics and Rarities is a gawdawful album, but instead a reflection of how brilliant it is. Let's back up to 1986, when the great, hairy, prehistoric monster of a band first formed. And a grand idea it was: round up a herd of larger-than-life musicians, give them wads of green to chomp on, and let them loose in the studio...where things immediately began going wrong. As fans are well aware, a rift opened up between purist, hard rocking guitarist Kenny Cox and American market-minded bassist John McCoy and singer Nicky Moore. It certainly left Bernie Tormé, called in to replace the soon errant Cox, in confusion, as he recalls in the set's excellent sleeve notes. So much so, that on a couple of occasions when asked to recut Cox's guitar parts, he refused, which says much for both his integrity and the Mammoth man's work. The band would have none of it though, and in the case of "Political Animal" replaced their strayed member with a saxophone. Of course, it's all a bit more complicated than even that, but you can read the details for yourself. In any event, Mammoth's eponymous album eventually appeared in 1989, but by then the group had entered a very silly stage, and then lumbered quickly into extinction. Now however, the bones of Mammoth have been dug up from ...

Johnny Rivers & His L.A. Boogie Band: Johnny Rivers (guitar); Jack Conrad (bass guitar); Chuck Findley, Dean Parks, Herb Pedersen, Jim Gordon , Jim Horn, Michael Melvoin.
Originally released in 1974, LAST BOOGIE IN PARIS: THE COMPLETE CONCERT is Shout! Factory's expanded remaster of one of Johnny Rivers' most beloved late-period albums. Presented in its original order for the first time, this concert cooks from beginning to end. Rivers's blue-eyed soul voice and boogie-oriented guitar work enliven standards such as "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Long Tall Sally," mid-'60s soul stalwarts such as "Baby I Need Your Lovin" and "Sea Cruise,"and even Rivers's faithful version of the Doobie Brothers' "Rock Me A Little While." This is essential for fans.
Let's face it, only Johnny Rivers could possibly get away with an album title like LAST BOOGIE IN PARIS. Recorded live in Paris in 1973 with the L.A. Boogie Band--including drummer Jim Gordon, guitarist Dean Parks and keyboardist Michael Melvoin, father of future Prince cohort Wendy Melvoin--backing him, Rivers delivers a high-energy set of rock & roll favorites.
