4 stars Not that great.
There are a few good songs on here. His style and sound are different from what I am used to on his earlier work. I have not heard any of his work done after the first bloccstyle and other blackmarket stuff, except for this cd. Those cds did not get good reviews either. This one may be no different. He also has too many guest appearances on here. I think it would be better to hear more of Doc. That could make this cd better. I guess Doc just grew up and matured. Its just not that hardcore gangsta sh## that I like. Thats what Doc used to be, but not no more.

Hot hot hot! This CD brings back the excitement of the first Bloccstyle. The dope "Epidemic Anthem" gets things crackin'. It's a shame that he, Mr. Doctor, retired after this CD was made. :(

The Foundation, or the re-resurrection, is the first time Scarface, Bushwick Bill, and Willie D -- along with group founder, Rap-A-Lot head, and producer Lil' J/J Prince -- have recorded as the Geto Boys since 1996's Resurrection. It was originally supposed to be titled War and Peace, like the Ice Cube album, but the group opted to go with The Foundation, much like the Brand Nubian album (itself a reunion affair). First time on CD for 1968 album from one of the most sought-after session guitarists in England (the Kinks' 'You Really Got Me' & 'Tired of Waiting,' Marianne Faithfull's 'As Tears Go By,' & Herman's Hermits' 'I'm Into Something Good,' 'Wonderful World,' 'A Must to Avoid,' & 'A Kind Of Hush'). Includes six bonus cuts from the De Wolfe library that include Jimmy Page, 'Indian Dance No. 2', 'Romantic Scene No. 1', 'The Wild One', 'Pop Spot', 'Viva La Tamla Motown' & 'Pageing Sullivan'. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
It's not certain from the liner notes (which are actually quite good and lengthy) whether this has everything Sarne recorded from 1962-1964. But if it doesn't, this grouping of 27 tracks -- including material from his singles, his only album (from 1962, also titled Come Outside With Mike Sarne), film soundtracks, and an export-only cover of Heinz's "Just Like Eddie" -- must come damn close. However, even those willing to cut some slack for compilations of British rock & roll from just before the Beatles might find this way too corny and lightweight. Well, let's not pull punches: If you're looking for an exhibit of just how necessary the Beatles were to inject life and personality into an insufferably tepid British rock scene, this CD will do nicely. Sarne's voice was far better suited for vaudevillian theater than rock & roll, and in fact the material is basically pre-rock British music hall (complete with prominent British accent) with some pop/rock influence in the backing.
