Kingdom Of Fear album
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not melody. Still, there's not that much new here -- and the coda of seasonal covers, including the first sober version of "Nutrocker" ever cut, doesn't do much to break that spell. But for those already enchanted by the Orchestra, this will continue to enthrall.

| | Pink Martini Splendor In The Grass CD (2009) Digipak
Kingdom Of Fear CD music
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' first half is especially smooth, opening with the beautifully soft Neapolitan ballad "Ninna Nanna" and the title track, on which Forbes sings "I think we should take it slow" over swooping strings, brass, and piano that resurrect the glory days of AM pop; that feeling is echoed by the cover of Joe Raposo's "Sing," the Sesame Street song that gained popularity when the Carpenters performed it (Emilio ...

Kingdom Of Fear songs
$18.99 Singer/songwriter/guitarist Lisa McCormick is a mainstay of the indie singer/songwriter underground, where her strong, clear voice, and smart, sexy lyrics have earned her a loyal following. The Brattleboro Reformerâs Dave Madeloni hailed Lisaâs âMystery Girlâ as âthe quintessential "make-out" album - one that in a perfect world, would be the talk of the town.âLisaâs latest, âTalisman Grooveâ, features her signature smart sexy themes, and sultry vocals, spiced with exotic world music influences. âThink âMystery Girlâ, with a rail pass,â McCormick says of this new collection, which draws from a variety of musical influences, including Latin, Middle Eastern, Reggae, and Tango flavors.Multi-instrumentalist T-Bone Wolk, saxophonist Erik Lawrence, percussionist Steve Leicach, cellist Sabine Rhyne, trombonist Dan DeWalt, and jazz guitarist Draa Hobbs, each with strong ties to southern Vermont, contributed to the project. Also featured is renowned cutting-edge drummer, Allison Miller (Natalie Merchant, Ani DiFranco) âMystery Girlâ drummer, Michael Tate (3D), plus a cameo appearance by McCormickâs musical mentor, veteran folk/rock icon Jonathan Edwards("Sunshine").Recorded at Northern Track Studio in Wilmington, VT and Hidden Drive Studio in Brattleboro, VT, âTalisman Grooveâ was co-produced and mixed by engineer/producer Julian McBrowne. Offerings Jewelry contributed the cover Goddess face, with graphic design by Thrasher Graphics in Brattleboro. The composition phase of âTalisman Grooveâ was supported in part by a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council.Seduction Goes Global on Lisa McCormickâs New CD, âTalisman GrooveâAffirmation in a Sultry, Worldly and Well-Wrought PackageBy Jon Potter, Brattleboro Reformer, September 13, 2007When I asked Lisa McCormick why she named her new CD âTalisman Grooveâ, she said, I liked the idea of groove. I felt like I wanted the album to have that feeling. And the idea of a talismanâŠthe idea that having something that to you has tremendous positive power.âNot unwittingly, McCormick found a ...
