5 stars Big Band At Its Best
Great title for a timeless recording. The opening cut just reaches up and grabs you....and never turns you loose. My current faves are West End Blues and a very nice turn on Naima. But with a swinging band like Dave Tucker's, I discover something new with each listen. I think Mr. Blount has found a perfect vehicle for his bold rich powerful tone....though I'd love to hear him in a more intimate trio or quartet setting. It's amazing how he soars above the band on the solos, yet other times, blends right in....without ever losing his identity or swing. A Great Find.

Guerrilla Mosaics is a sax-koto-percussion conversation with results as unexpected as would be expected from these players. Butcher introduces his vocabulary of multiphonics, high frequencies and unique articulations to Masaoka's koto and laser-triggered koto; Robair ranges over the course of the disc from barely audible texturing to explosive full drum-kit.
