Mobster Joe Wells (George E. Stone) is shot in his hotel room and before dying, he manages to stumble into the nearby "Gangster Wax Museum." Sue Gallagher (Ann Savage), a reporter who lives above the museum, recognizes Wells' body, stashes it, and dashes upstairs to write the story. Sue's on-again off-again boyfriend and rival reporter Pete Willis (William Gargan) learns what she's up to and makes a dash to get the scoop first. The museum owner and his comically inept assistant Clutch (Leo Gorcey) soon find out what's going on, the cops get involved, and the killer comes looking for Wells' body, but nobody can seem to find it. Danger reaches a fever pitch when Sue becomes trapped in the museum with the killer-and no way out!
MR. WONG IN CHINATOWN
A beautiful Chinese woman visiting Detective Wong (Boris Karloff) at his home is mysteriously struck by a poisoned dart and dies in Wong's study. The only clue at the crime scene is an unfinished, hastily scrawled note that reads, "Captain J." Wong later learns from persistent reporter Bobby Logan (Marjorie Reynolds) that the murdered woman is Princess Lin Hwa (Lotus Long), who was visiting San Francisco to acquire planes for defense against Japanese invasion. Soon after the princess's death, her maid Lilly May (Bessie Loo) and a dwarf (Angelo Rossitto), whose identity is unknown, are found dead—victims of the poisoned dart that did the princess in. Wong manages to track two captains with "J" initials to the San Francisco harbor. Both men are considered suspect along with a shady banker (Huntley Gordon), but before he can smoke out the killer, Wong gets kidnapped. Can the captive detective solve the mystery and save himself?
MURDER AT MIDNIGHT
An evening of fun and entertainment turns into one of terror for the high-society guests of a party at an atmospherically eerie mansion when the murder scene in a play performed for party-goers becomes real. In the play, the clock strikes midnight and the victim is shot through the heart. The audience goes wild over the spectacularly acted death scene-until they realize that it's no act at all. Everyone at the party is held under suspicion, and when the top suspect is found dead, authorities believe that it's a simple case of murder-suicide-until the second victim's lawyer steps in and reveals that someone had threatened the man. Embroiled in a full-blown double murder mystery, criminologist Phillip Montrose (Hale Hamilton) wastes no time trying to solve the complex case, but the killer is clever, always staying one step ahead of his police pursuers.
MURDER WITH PICTURES
After managing to side-step a murder charge, mobster Nate Girard (Onslow Stevens) throws a party where his lawyer, Stanley Redfield (Ernest Cossart), is murdered in front of dozens of eyewitnesses; and yet, no one saw who committed the crime. Unfortunately, evidence points to pretty Meg Archer (Gail Patrick), who confronted Girard about the murder rap he managed to avoid just moments before his lawyer was slain. Newspaper photographer Kent Murdock (Lew Ayres) believes in Meg's innocence and hides her from the police, pledging to help her. But Meg has her own agenda…and so does the killer, who believes that she and Kent are getting too close to the truth. When Kent finds a photograph that caught the killer red-handed, it seems the case is cleared up-when really, it's only the beginning_
