NEW ALBUMS in ONE MONTH! Magic Dirt are back with the twin sisters from hell. The noise album, Roky's Room & the mini-album, Beast. Beast is the slightly more 'adjusted' sister. She is flat out and 4 to the floor, swinging her mane, beating her feet, cage unlocked. Beast is a collection of 7 of the Dirt's most intense psycho-drama workouts. The lyrics take you to some dark places & force you to take a look around. This is their dirtiest primal grind yet. Daniel Herring, original Magic Dirt guitarist, appears on 2 tracks for some triple guitar onslaught. Three guitars and one chord never sounded so nasty. Magic Dirt Beast Songs | 1. | Horror Me |

Beast
$12.59 When Layne Staley died from a drug overdose in 2002, it had already been several years since most Alice in Chains fans stopped hoping for a new album. The singer had become a recluse since the late-`90s, and there was little indication that AIC would ever again produce much in the way of new music. As a result, when the remaining members reunited to release BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE in 2009, expectations were low. To the delight of all however, the album proved to be perhaps the Seattle combo's ...
| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
Beast
$11.99 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her heart out here. The opener, a version of Jimmie Rodgers' "Miss the Mississippi and You," is full of comfortable grace and sentiment, and Cash keeps that fine emotional tone throughout this set. Songs like the folk classic "500 Miles" feel at once both lovingly rendered and reborn for a new century in Cash's hands. There's also her ...

| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Beast
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures album these two recorded at the Fillmore West know how brilliant they could be on stage, and here's another gem, recorded at the Fillmore East this time and featuring 'One Way Out,' ...
| | Ray LaMontagne Trouble CD (2004)
Beast
$9.69 Every once in a while a singer/songwriter comes down the pike in the grand emotive tradition of Neil Young and Van Morrison. In the early 2000s, the quietly intense folk of Iron & Wine and the rootsy-experimental stylings of Sufjan Stevens continued that lineage. Ray LaMontagne, whose impressive 2004 debut, TROUBLE, draws on alt-country, roots rock, and progressive folk in a unique, strikingly sincere way, seems a likely candidate for the keeper of the flame.
The title track, which opens the album, introduces LaMontagne's deeply textured singing. Simultaneously ...

| | Loggins & Messina Sittin' In/Loggins And Messina CDs (1997) (Import) United Kingdom
Beast
$18.59 Originally released as three separate albums, SITTIN' IN, LOGGINS AND MESSINA and FULL SAIL.
Between 1972 and 1973, Loggins And Messina were on a roll. They released a trio of hugely successful records, culminating in the platinum FULL SAIL, which became the group's biggest seller. Much of the group's most memorable work was born of this first burst of creativity. After FULL SAIL, their records began to show the strain of success, which hastened their eventual break-up.
The wide stylistic territory covered in these songs embodies the many musical styles that Loggins And Messina seemed to effortlessly combine into their work. Over their six-album career, they returned to the '50s-style bubblegum of "Your Mama Don't Dance" and "My Music," as well as the aching balladry of "Danny's Song." They would also go further in the direction of the sophisticated jazz-pop of "Angry Eyes." Elsewhere, the Calypso-flavored "Vahevela" stands out as a gem in the group's catalog. Twice per record they stretched out on Jim Messina's extended, medley-style compositions. The medley on SITTIN' IN, which finishes with "Peace of Mind," is arguably the best of these wonderfully constructed musical trilogies.
2007 digitally remastered two CD set that features the first two albums from the Folk/Pop duo (Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina). Sittin' ...
