(3 Customer Reviews)
Released in 2007, Luke Bryan's debut, I'LL STAY ME, finds the Georgia-born country singer-songwriter offering up an assured first album. With his amiable, laid-back demeanor, Bryan easily conveys a guy-next-door charm, particularly on his initial hit single, the humorously hapless "All My Friends Say." Although Bryan doesn't exactly buck Nashville tradition, his straight-ahead approach allows his well-crafted songs to shine, ensuring a promising career ahead.

I'll Stay Me album
$7.65 24-year-old country singer Jake Owen debuts with the self-assured--and largely self-written--STARTIN' WITH ME, a solid example of contemporary Nashville country that doesn't neglect its traditional roots. Neither as slick as Keith Urban nor as rock-influenced as Muzik Mafia types like Big & Rich or Gretchen Wilson, the Florida-born Owen is a contemporary analogue to the New Traditionalists of the 1980s. Though the debut single "Yee Haw" and the rebel-rousing album closer "You Can Thank Dixie" kick up a Toby Keith-style roadhouse fuss, old-school ballads like "Ghosts" are Owen's strong suit.

| | Sugarland Enjoy The Ride CD (2006)
I'll Stay Me CD music
$10.45 With the departure of founding member Kristen Hall, Sugarland slimmed down to a duo. Losing one-third of the formula that made their debut a country/pop crossover smash might seem a daunting proposition, but ENJOY THE RIDE finds remaining members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush not only surviving but thriving. Nettles's brassy belting has more sass and sex appeal than ever, and the in-your-face attitude on many of the pair's songs is even more brash and boundary-pushing than the most full-throttle moments on 2004's TWICE THE SPEED OF LIFE. While the uptempo tracks indicate that Sugarland has been paying attention to the Gretchen Wilson/Big & Rich camp, they're handily offset by more reflective balladic moments, making this a well-balanced RIDE.

| | Joe Nichols Real Things CD (2007)
I'll Stay Me album
$6.59 Following the mainstream success of Joe Nichols's hit "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" from his previous album JOE NICHOLS III, the Nashville singer could easily have become a successful purveyor of similar pop-oriented novelty hits. Encouragingly, REAL THINGS instead makes a left turn into traditional country, filled with acoustic ballads such as "Another Side of You" and "All Good Things." Even the rowdy "Let's Get Drunk and Fight" sounds more like Alan Jackson than Big and Rich. Other highlights include a lovely cover of Blaze Foley's "If I Could Only Fly" sung with Lee Ann Womack.

| | Alan Jackson Good Time CD (2008)
I'll Stay Me CD music
$10.89 On his first traditional country album since 2004's WHAT I DO, Alan Jackson steps outside the comfortable routine he's created for himself in favor of creating a more personal and introspective work. The first album on which Jackson has written all of the songs all by himself, GOOD TIME is Jackson's most autobiographical album by some distance. "Small Town Southern Man" is a touching farewell to his late father, while "I Wish I Could Back Up" and "Never Loved Before" (a duet with country superstar Martina McBride) are intimate love songs more revealing than most country radio fare. GOOD TIME is true to its title, however; alongside the revealing autobiographical tunes, there are sly, swaggering country-rockers like "Country Boy" and more thoughtful fare like the devotional "If Jesus Walked The World Today." At 17 songs, this is one of Alan Jackson's longest albums, but GOOD TIME features remarkably ...
