| | Kanye West Graduation CD Kanye West Discography of CDs
Given the remarkable critical and commercial success of 2005's LATE REGISTRATION, Kanye West's rich, rewarding sophomore release, expectations were high for 2007's GRADUATION. Ever savvy, West flouts those expectations by delivering a record that delivers curveballs while staying true to his sharply sculpted, commercially minded m.o. West's rapping, never his greatest strength, is still entertaining. He delivers witty, smart, sometimes absurd rhymes (he seems to take more lyrical chances on GRADUATION) that fit nicely with the overall feel of his tracks.
As usual, it's West's productions that stand out. While there are examples of his style-defining use of classic R&B samples and background choirs (as on the feel-good highlight "I Wonder"), West streamlines his sound to center on synth-driven lines, giving many of the tracks a retro-electro new wave feel. "Stronger," for example, another standout, is powered by a vocoder-drenched vocal sample courtesy of French dance superstars Daft Punk, which finds West again more comfortable in hip-hop's uncharted waters. The overall results make for a fun, inventive album that offers proof that West still has tricks up his sleeve.
Amp - Amended ProducRolling Stone (p.90) - 4.5 stars out of 5 -- "This is an album that you first like ,then love....He's grown as a writer....The music needs his spazzed out, neurotic creativity more than ever." Rolling Stone (p.108) - Included in Rolling Stone's "50 Top Albums of the Year 2007" -- "[T]he year's most high-impact work..." Spin (p.114) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "West's third album is mesmerizing and alienating, like all the purest forms of pop culture. Its music is a rush of designer adrenaline..." Q (p.95) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Musically, West is still capable of the inspirational. The cocktail piano of opening track 'I Wonder' soon gives way to the towering layers of '80s synthesizers that characterise the whole album." Kanye West Graduation Songs Graduation Review

THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is as all-encompassing as a single disc can be in cataloging a three-decade career (so far) that could be filed under any of a dozen or so branches of pop and R&B. (For the complete story, see the four-disc set FOREVER DIANA: MUSICAL MEMOIR.) A sort of Motown blend of Elvis Presley and Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross started out as a singer of amazing torch songs with the most sensual of all girl groups, the Supremes, and eventually became bigger than her name. Since then, she has been as willing to sing the most sentimental of ballads as to take on a new dance beat. And Ross has handled every move with class; she rarely sounds like a pop star stooping to latch onto a trendy new sound, but rather like a seasoned balladeer reaching for a new melody.
THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION starts with five Supremes classics, and then moves on to a solo career that included such disparate hits as the gorgeous MOR ballad "Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To?)" and the sublime disco treat "Upside Down." It also includes Frankie Knuckles' thoroughly '90s dance remix of the Supremes' "Someday We'll Be Together" (from 1994's DIANA EXTENDED: THE REMIXES), a song that brings both her career and this generous disc full circle.
Be assured that the title here is not remotely hyperbolic; in fact, it's hard to imagine a better single disc Supremes greatest hits collection. Every Supremes song you could conceivably want is here in chronological order, beginning with their first Top 40 hit, 1963's "When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes," to 1969's cleverly calculated farewell smash "Someday We'll Be Together."
All of them are in the original glorious mono. This compilation is also a pretty interesting time capsule look at various '60s pop styles; for example, in retrospect, it's hard to think of the Supremes as having ever been remotely psychedelic, but even they got a little trippy with songs like "The Happening" and "Reflections."
This compilation attempts to condense Diana Ross's most successful recordings into one 20-song, 71«-minute disc. Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that Ross (who produced the album, which is to say picked the tracks) has included six of her Supremes recordings from the 1960s (one of them, "Someday We'll Be Together," in a new disco mix) and licensed a few songs from her stay at RCA in the 1980s, making this the most wide-ranging ...

McMurray co-wrote and produced the first single release on the DSOB entitled “Label Me Love” which featured the unique vocals of their Lead vocalist Ronald Logan. The record began to receive national radio play and it appeared the DSOB were on their way to the top of the charts with their first hit record…..when Ron (the lead singer who’s voice helped to add the magic that it takes to create hit records) decided he had to leave the group during the initial release of their 1st record to pursue a higher calling …the ...
