| | Jake Mcmurray Cat Town CD Jake Mcmurray Discography of CDs
Born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Scott County, Virginia, Jake started playing guitar at age 19. He moved on to the banjo, fiddle, and mandolin. Influenced by the rock and roll of Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, and Tom Petty and the banjo style of his uncle Jeff Winegar of the Boozy Creek String Band and the Rough Riders, Jake fuses ole time and traditional Appalachian music with hard driving rock'n roll energy. He showcases his take on roots rock with his version of the mountain folk song 'Red Rock'n Chair'. Of course classic arrangements of traditional tunes are not forgotten on his debut release titled Cat Town, which also includes original material like 'Compromise', co-written by lead guitarist Aaron Roberts, and 'Cairo', an instrumental reminiscent of the surreal Alfonso El Sabio era Spanish guitar music. Recorded in Jake's home studio, most of the instrumentation is done by Jake himself, with special appearances from some of Jake's musician friends. Artists include Jeff Winegar on fiddle, Steven Davidson on dawghouse bass, Jake's brother Joe McMurray on vocals and guitar, Aaron Roberts on guitar, Rusty Smith on guitar, Gerry Davidson on guitar, Zeke Spivey on drums and Bob Moorehouse on cello. Jake is currently touring with and playing banjo for the Boozy Creek String Band. | | Vanessa Verlee I Don't Know If You Know CD (2006)
Cat Town album
$13.15 Vanessa Verlee's music is story music - her story, your story, our story. Her writing is honest and raw, like her voice. Her influences include Patty Griffin, Janis Joplin, Ben Harper and John Prine, although reviewers have often had difficulty in drawing comparisons with Vanessa's style. Raised the daughter of a United Methodist minister in Indiana, Vanessa has been singing in front of people since she learned the words to "Jesus Loves Me."She studied journalism in school and people in life, and was never without a pen in her hand. At the age of twenty when she first picked up a guitar, her passions - singing, writing, and performing all met. Since then, Vanessa has been prolific in songwriting and active in performing. In 1997, she began her performing career opening up for Mike Roe, lead singer of the 77's, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After playing in Fort Wayne for about a year she moved back to the Northshore of Boston to finish college, where she lived and performed until 1999. While in Massachusetts, Vanessa recorded and produced ...
