| | Eight Minutes To Twilight Fairlanes Avenue CD Eight Minutes To Twilight Discography of CDs
Fairlanes Avenue is Eight Minutes to Twilight's first self-produced, self-recorded album. They are Josh Wright, Josh Howard, and Jason Janofsky, who joined the band shortly after Fairlanes Avenue was recorded. Reviewer Magazine said..."The horn that interpolates in and out of the music on âFairlanes Avenueâ adds such a beautiful melancholia to it. I was in a real lethargic, empty mood when I listened to this CD for the first time and it was the perfect soundtrack to my disposition at the moment, it didnât grate or bore or annoy, it just was the perfect atmosphere and flowed smoothly through my brain.Eight Minutes to Twilight is the brainchild of two Joshes: Messrs. Wright & Howard, a couple of San Diegans who have ditched the typical power-pop vacuity that is associated with Southern California and instead have focused on introverted, emotive compositions that are pleasing musically as well as lyrically apt. âFairlanes Avenueâ is their greeting to the world; it says âHere I am; I hope youâll like me, but please donât get too close and smother meâŚâ The sad English horn noodles throughout the opener, âCollisionâ and really complements the sentiments well. The stark, quietude of âGoodnight Prayersâ is haunting. Itâs a shivering, lonely cry in the dark and then âMattâ picks up a tad, bringing a hopeful bit of optimism to bear. While the ethos and attitude is rock ânâ roll, the music isnât brash, ebullient or jarring; itâs more of a brooding, cerebral crooning and a plaintive cry for some kind of release from whatever pain it was born from. Fortunately, though, its wryness and coy jadedness, reminiscent of the hip smugness of Ben Folds, keep âFairlanes Avenueâ from sounding like so much dirge music. But, really, thereâs something about this that will not fit in a box so itâs very hard to pin any kind of label on it, I mean, itâs not really rock, per se, but neither is it folk nor jazz, country, soul nor R & B, itâs just honest, bare music and that is so refreshing for a change!" Fairlanes Avenue songs
$18.99 Experience the spiritual journey that Merlon Devine takes you on with his latest release Breathe. This CD is not your typical "smooth jazz" or "Christian saxophonist" CD, because he takes a different approach. "I was once locked in the box that says just because you are a Christian saxophonist, you had to primarily play hymns or cover popular Christian songs, but over the past few years, I dared to step out of that box and I have had tremendous success doing what's in my heart and not just doing what I think people can comprehend. I believe that God has given me new songs with a new sound, and 'he that has an ear can hear' and appreciate them. Furthermore, growing up with a singing mother and sisters, I approach songwriting more like a vocalist would versus the melody lines and song structure of some smooth jazz songs." This new approach and sound is a fresh blend of funky melodies to sometimes R&B / hip-hop type beats. "I like to call it Urban Contemporary Jazz. I've been able to take it to all types of audiences and really broaden the scope of people I can reach through the message of music." Merlon Devine is no new artist. He's displayed his smooth saxophone skills on the last two recordings of long time Gospel Jazz Keyboardist Ben Tankard. "Recording with Ben has really been a treat. His style is different from mine, yet we flow really well together. He has an excellent ear as a producer and an artist. He knows how to bring some good things out of me. He produced some tracks on my previous CD, and I've played on Play A Lil' Song for Me and his latest Piano Prophet. I really admire the progress he has made in this industry and I consider him to be one of my music mentors." On Breathe, Merlon had the opportunity to work with ...

| | Magnus Eliassen Second Grace CD (2006) (Import)
Fairlanes Avenue CD music
$12.99 My name is Magnus Eliassen. Yeah, I know, it's not an instant hit... but it'll grow on you! You know, like those really good songs. Old classic album tracks that ain't trying to be something. They just are. Well, I don't want a name like Sunny Saturday Smiles of Broken Hearts Behind Confession Bars. You see this isn't some stupid thing I have to try to do... There is no try. I just happen to be Magnus Eliassen, and everyone else is already taken. Oh, and I have a band, with three of my best friends, and together we perform as who we are: Magnus Eliassen and The Singers and Players of Instruments. I can't believe a classic like that wasn't already taken!I have a bad memory. When I was a kid I lived with my parents on a tiny island far up in the north of Norway, but I can hardly remember anything from those days. It feels like my life is slipping away from me. I think I was obsessed with Lego, Bruce Springsteen and bernaise sauce. I've also been told that my father bought me a Commodore 64 before I was born, but I find that hard to believe. You see, according to my birth certificate I was born in January 1981, and the C64 was launched in August 1982. Hmmm...I guess I tend to get obsessed with stuff. Everything from collecting vinyl records to instruments and studio equipment and other pieces of useless junk. I'm done with that. Materialism and capitalism makes us exploit each other. All you really need is good health and some clothes. And love! My latest obsessions have been this health food project where I make all my food from scratch and try to pay no more than $1 per meal, and my vintage 1966 Fender Jaguar. Sunburst. Chrome. Tone. Mmm... So much for my anti-materialism...I managed to stay in school for 12 years. We moved to the mainland and the small city of Bodø, I was introduced to Sepultura and Public Enemy, I became a member of a punk band and joined the DIY scene, formed a metal band and said to myself that one morning every woman and man on this planet will wake up thinking of my band, going: "Damn!" I still have ambitions, but I guess I'll have to take one continent at a time. I also became a local rap ...
