MGM Holiday Classics Collection film
$10.85 Throbbing Gristle's first album--the "second" refers to it coming out at the end of their second year together--must have sounded like it came from another planet upon its 1977 release. Later industrial bands arguably introduced too much "normal" musical content, but very little about SECOND ANNUAL REPORT could be called normal.
From its deadpan sleeve to the peculiar choice of structuring the album with three live versions of the horrific "Slug Bait" (including a wonderful clip of a DJ screaming at the audience after a Throbbing Gristle gig) and four of the more straightforward "Maggot Death," it's a startling document. This reissue also includes the lengthy improvisation "After Cease to Exist," and both sides of the brilliant and subversive "United/Zyklon B Zombie" single, Throbbing Gristle's finest moment. Simply essential.

| | Black Sabbath Paranoid CDs (1971) (Import) Bonus CD; Bonus DVD; Advd; Deluxe Edition; United Kingdom
MGM Holiday Classics Collection review
$31.89 PARANOID proved to be Black Sabbath's most focused, consistent, and successful record. Leaving behind the amorphous, extended jams of their debut for focused songs and a more structured sound, Black Sabbath virtually wrote the book on heavy metal with the ominous, unforgettable riffs, thunderous rhythms, and dark themes on this release. There are some up-tempo rockers, the famous title track for one, but for the most part PARANOID oozes along like a bad dream, as on the slinky, creepy opener, "War Pigs," or the lumbering thud of "Iron Man" (which boasts one of the most indelible electric guitar riffs in rock history).
2009 digitally remastered and expanded deluxe three CD edition of the classic sophomore album from the Heavy Metal kingpins led by Ozzy Osbourne. Originally released in 1970, Paranoid still stands as an important milestone in the history of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. This ultimate edition features a beautifully remastered version of the album, an alternate version of the album including instrumental mixes, alternate recordings and more plus the SACD 5.1 audio mix of the album. Majestic Metal, indeed. Sanctuary.
The album's title is apt: PARANOID is filled with an edgy aggression and lyrics about war, insanity, death, and destruction. Ozzy Osbourne's flat, affectless voice merges perfectly with Tony ...

$7.09 Kelsey Grammar plays a wayward Navy officer, Tom Dodge, who is notorious throughout the Navy for having responded to a close call involving a Russian submarine by getting drunk and tattooing "welcome aboard" on an unmentionable appendage. He gets assigned by Admiral Winslow (Rip Torn) to command his own submarine; unfortunately, this sub is a rusting 1958 diesel model that the Navy wants to engage in war games to find out if it could inflict any damage. The assumption is, this sub is comparable to those the Russians are selling to renegade Iraqi and Libyan commanders, who might use them on suicide missions against the US.

MGM Holiday Classics Collection review
$7.45 The magic of a shipboard romance charms a Frenchman and American woman (Charles Boyer and Irene Dunne, respectively) into each other's arms, but promises made to other people and the notoriously fleeting nature of affairs convince the couple to part ways for six months and meet again atop the Empire State Building to see if their love is a lasting one. Although their hearts remain true, an accident and a misunderstanding might lead to heartbreak.
LOVE AFFAIR was written, directed, and produced by Leo McCarey as his first major foray into drama after a successful directorial career in comedies, including projects with the Marx ...
