The 1976 show features Lynde as a circus ringmaster and a performance by KISS. The flamboyant Paul Lynde--the ubiquitous center square on TV's HOLLYWOOD SQUARES--hosts this delightfully odd Halloween special from 1976. The witty one-liners fly as Lynde welcomes Margaret Hamilton (donning her Wicked Witch outfit from THE WIZARD OF OZ), rockers KISS (performing three songs amid soaring flames and smoke), and upbeat siblings Donny and Marie Osmond. Joining in on the delirium are party guests Tim Conway (DORF) and Billy Barty (dwarf). Paul Lynde Halloween Special Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) AWESOME!!!!!!!! THE 70'S RULED!!!! Submitted by tmac442 (LANGHORNE, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Who's ascaired? This is one of the oddest holiday specials in captivity. You've got Paul Lynde hosting and behaving like the "bachelor" next door, and mincing through a reworded rendition of "Kids" that proves how "with it" he is. Margaret Hamilton does her WQW bit, and of course looks much younger and healthier in her green makeup.
Then the really scary stuff happens:
3 songs by KISS, and, much scarier, Paul sucking up to them in the best Mike Douglas manner.
The truck driver duel between Paul and Tim Conway over Pinky Tuscadero (sp?).
Then there's the disco finale, a sea of orange turtlenecks and flashing lights.
And in the midst of all of this, Florence Henderson does a disco version of That Old Black Magic.
The disconnect is so complete that this could only be a media artifact of the mid 1970s, when incoherence was a lifestyle trend.
Thanks for finding and preserving this truly bizarre piece of Bicentennial TV Americana.
Some of it's painful, and some of it's painfully amusing, but you'll be glad you saw it.
And the bonus reminiscences by Peter Marshall are congenial, yet unflinching. Submitted by joeginfohills (Forest Hills, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Paul Lynde Halloween Special DVD The Paul Lynde Halloween Special aired only once (on October 29, 1976) and featured a "Who's Who" of mid-'70s TV and film stars; Paul held everything together as the ringmaster of a circus that featured Margaret Hamilton (her only prime time TV appearance wearing the full outfit from The Wizard of Oz), Witchie Poo from H.R. Pufnstuf, Donnie and Marie (who had Paul as a regular on their series), Tim Conway, Billy Barty and in their first prime time TV appearance, KISS. They perform three songs but the on-stage conversation with KISS, Paul and Margaret Hamilton is priceless.

$31.15 Terrence Malick's follow-up to BADLANDS is an exquisitely photographed story of a group of early-20th-century itinerant workers who find themselves entangled in a deadly love triangle. Bill (Richard Gere) and Abby (Brooke Adams) are lovers who are forced to flee Chicago after Bill accidentally murders his foreman. Together, with Bill's little sister, Linda (Linda Manz), they settle on the land of a wealthy farmer (Sam Shepard) and spend their days working in the wheat fields. Bill discovers that the farmer is terminally ill and convinces Abby to marry him so they can inherit his fortune. As the days progress, it becomes apparent that the farmer isn't getting any sicker, and when he discovers that Abby and Bill had initially set out to con him, their carefree existence comes to a deadly end.
Notorious for its extended postproduction schedule, DAYS OF HEAVEN remains a beautifully composed work of art. Malick uses dialogue minimally, sometimes choosing not to fade in the sound of a scene until the actors have finished speaking. To combat this, he applies Linda's innocent voice-over--as he did with Sissy Spacek's in BADLANDS--to add a poetic dimension. Combined with Nestor Almendros's Oscar-winning cinematography and Ennio Morricone's mellifluent score, DAYS OF HEAVEN ...
