It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; he favors formal over familiar, writing madrigals, not ditties. It is music made by someone who lives in a castle, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing: the austerity is genuine, not affected, and the cerebral nature of the album is fascinating, albeit mildly so, as this is as sleepy as it is thoughtful. And it's that thoughtfulness that does distinguish IF ON A WINTER NIGHT...; no other Christmas album exists in the head like this. It's a holiday album for people who have never wanted to hear a holiday album, let alone own one.

The marketing department at Warner Brothers must have really wanted to get a jump on the holiday season when they released Faith Hill's 2008 Christmas album, JOY TO THE WORLD, in September. Hill's set of carols and traditional songs may not suit the late summer, but that doesn't make JOY TO THE WORLD any less of a treat. As albums like BREATHE and FIREFLIES proved, Hill has no problem crossing over to mainstream audiences, and this Christmas set (the singer's first) should strengthen that appeal. Daze Of Green is mix of rock, blues , country, pop and jazz. The band originally started out in 1996 with Ken Koenig on acoustic guitar, vocals and Ray La bay on electric guitar. The two go back to 1988 when they started writing music together and doing small gigs here and there. By the early 90's, Daze of Green (who were under the name "Koenig, La bay") we're doing more the acoustic/electric shows at local java and restaurants. Daze of Green has a great back log of original music as well as a list of cover tunes that range from the 50's, to the 90's. In 1997 the band released their 1st Cd of original music called "A Musical Philosophy". This Cd was a great collection of Ken and Rays earlier work within the acoustic/electric folk rock sound. After their Cd release, Daze Of Green completed their band with a drummer and bass player and did some heavy gigging to back their new Cd. During that time they recorded a limited Cd live at "Old Ironside" of 5 new songs called "Never be the same". After a full year of playing and writing, Daze of Green took a small break to work on new music.Around 2000, Ken and Ray decided to try out their new songs they way they use to do it....acoustic/electric. At the same time, they were starting on their next Cd with drummer Jeff Tuttle. From that point Jeff has been an official band member.
