| | Robert Mike Mahaffay Gone Orchestra Presents Perry Robinson & The Etern CD (2005)
Some Other Country
$9.85 The MMA is a Record label that chronicles the work of Mike Mahaffay going back to the early 1970's. His music is so filled with the reality of our being/existence that it is no longer something we do; it has become something that is. Improvisation is the core of his work: spontaneous creation. It is through the music, in both the individual and collective sense, that the process of self-realization takes place. "The soul who is seeking the path of spiritual awakening is in search of the formless God. It is music that has beauty, power, and charm, and at the same time raises the soul beyond form". Hazarat Inayat Khan"...The Eternal Flame" was a series of recordings made on a recent trip in 2000 by Perry Robinson to The Pacific Northwest.Robinson still remains loyal to the clarinet at a time when the number of artists who do so exclusively can, even today, still be counted on almost one hand (and virtually none improvise regularly on the small sopranino version of the horn, as Perry does). Most importantly, few practitioners of any instrument have quite the mixture of influences and experience that this singing, versatile player has. Burton Greene comments that "boxes, categories, separatism have little meaning for him. And therefore in his music... whatever he plays is always right on. I can't imagine anyone not liking Perry's music with its immediate warmth and ...
| | Roni O Street's Most Hated CD (2008)
Some Other Country
$10.15 Ronio (Roni.O) was born in Harlem New York, April '88. He lived in Corona Queens where he was under the guidance of his adopting grandmother. In fall '92 was when he and his family migrated to Rochdale Village, located in Jamaica Queens. Here is where he was raised, not only by his grandparents, but also by his urban surroundings. He attended P.S. 30 where he began rapping, influenced by his older brother (Slugadon) and lyrical legends like: 2Pac and the Outlaws, Big L, B.I.G, Jay-Z, and Nas. After multiple amounts of rap battles, and a cappella performances, at the age of 12 years old Ronio had already figured out what he wanted to do, with a strong local buzz, that reign with him through his educational career. By 2001 Ronio was an independent artist with nothing more than an appetite for more. Using home based recording he was "laying tracks" and creating self-made instrumentals, using a computer software entitled "fruity loops". Due to his involvement in multiple activities, it was hard for him to focus 100% on his music, so slowly but surely he ended up drifting off into the temptations of the streets at a higher level. But before he took a break from the music he started a mixtape project entitled "Crush'n Tha Hataz". Which was a 12 part series of mixtapes for street distribution, and promotion. Eventually, the effort put in the project was non, because of lack of studio time, and professional songs, so the project was released in 2004, and sold an unexpected 8,000 copies. After the surprising turn out, Ronio was adrenaline driven for the part 2 release. So more equipment was purchased for more home based recording, that took place at his co-producer's Paul Blazes Rocchdale apartment {studio 7b}. Trials and tribulations of life caused lack of songs, but an abundance of original instrumentals. Winter '05 the mixtape "Krushin Tha Hataz vol. 2" was released and distributed a whopping 15,000 copies of the mixtape. The project, co-executive produced by (Slugadon Slugfest mgt. ), gained more of a buzz for the artist. His talent is said to be remarkably undefined and versatile. In an interview with Piff-bunny distribution's chairman, Steve Piff he says: "Ronio is truly hip-hops CPR. Not only is he lyrically talented, but he has personality, and his music is really music". Move records founder Mark Hatcher says: "hands down, he is the idol of the future, his music sounds out of this world, and highly advanced. " Ronio is now, preparing for his nation wide, promotional tour, before then releasing two new mixtapes and an album, entitled the "future is now". He works hard non-stop, writing songs, creating ...
