April In Paris album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ...

Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical).
This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. ...

$11.39 Ward A is:Troy - Guitar, vocalsPoppa Silky (Ryan)- Bass, vocalsHurricane White (Deva)- Drums, vocals.---------------Ward A is originally and still from Seattle. Troy started the whole thing back in the late 90's. Deva and Ryan have been with the band since 1998. Back since the days of Lake Union Pub / Uncle Rocky's and Zaks, these guys have been playing punk in Seattle in bands such as The Tortured, Hippies in Flames, Three Legged Dog, and CHICKEN. Members of Ward A Hail from such places as Detroit, St. Louis, and Sri Lanka creating A lovley mix of hatred and A chaotic lust for life ------------------------------Extracts:DARK NIGHT OF THE PUNK ROCK SOUL -----------DEAR STRANGER: It's really late, and I've been pacing all night. I've been thinking about your article on Zak's Fifth Ave. You know, the NEW punk bar. This letter isn't geared to "slam" Brian Foss or Jennifer Maerz. It's to INFORM you of a shitload of PUNK bands from here and abroad, who spilled their fucking guts out at Zak's for five fucking years before Mr. Foss took over booking duties from Troy. AND, about the bands who refused to play there because they were afraid to lose their Seattle rock 'n' roller seal of approval from the music police for entertaining all of us "low-life scum." | | Marcus Goldhaber Moment After CD (2006)
April In Paris CD music
$7.99 Marcus Goldhaber is a singer with real feeling for the songs he interprets, and he obviously loves the dozen standards on The Moment After. However, his voice is very close to that of Chet Baker's, almost too close at times, so he does not display a musical personality of his own despite his sincerity. While not really a jazz singer himself, mostly sticking to the words and the melodies, Goldhaber is joined by a fine jazz trio which has plenty of solo space for pianist Jon Davis. The renditions are swinging, the songs are superior, and Marcus Goldhaber does his best throughout. But to be taken seriously, the singer will have to develop a voice of his own in the future. ~ Scott Yanow
Marcus Goldhaber is a welcome addition to the music world with an intimate approach to straight-ahead Jazz. Marcus sings with comfortable ease and though his sound has been compared to that of John Pizzarelli, Chet Baker and a young Frank Sinatra, he definitely has a unique style that is rooted in the beauty of a simple melody. Growing up, Marcus was introduced to the wonderful music of Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Sammy Cahn, Peggy Lee and many others at a very young age. His mother was always playing songs from this genre that she had learned as a child on their 1928 Ivers & Pond upright piano and passing them on as they were once passed on to her. This is still a common practice. In 2000, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from SUNY Fredonia and then went directly to NYC, where he began working as an actor. After the shows, he would often sit in on various jam sessions around town. After a successful start to his career in the theatre with several Off-Broadway productions, appearances on CBS’s Guiding Light and a solid amount of regional work, he decided to take a more focused approach towards his music career. Based in NYC, Marcus has studied with Mark Murphy, Norma Garbo, Marianne Challis, Alix Korey and Russ Kassoff. He has also had the opportunity to perform with several Jazz greats such as James Weidman, Eric Frazier, Lou Columbo, Eric Lewis, Peter Hand and Lafayette Harris. Since June of 2005, he has played NYC venues, including: The Carnegie Club, Creole, The Lenox Lounge, Smoke, Cleopatra’s Needle, The Ritz Carlton, Crobar, Vertigo, and the illustrious ...
