(2 Customer Reviews)
If UFO has one addition to rock's pantheon of classic albums, this is it. FORCE IT builds on its predecessor, PHENOMENON, by taking the band further away from their fuzzier, space-rocking early records. Guitarist Michael Schenker's playing has a new toughness and clarity that perfectly frames the more melodic, hook-oriented songwriting he developed in tandem with singer Phil Mogg. With crisp rhythms and riffs that gallop squarely on the beat, FORCE IT provides the perfect snapshot for when post-Zeppelin/glam hard rock morphed into the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. A 2008 reissue includes one previously unreleased studio track--"Million Miles"--and five live versions of album cuts.
FORCE IT is a reissue of UFO's 1975 space rock classic.

| | Starz Violation CD (1977) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Force It CD music
$10.45 Starz' sophomore album, Violation, was quite similar to its predecessor. Jack Douglas was still the band's producer, and Starz continued to favor the type of slick, commercial hard rock that would be called pop-metal in the '80s and early '90s. This 1977 LP didn't establish Starz as major players in the pop-metal field; the New Yorkers did have a small following, although not a huge one. Nonetheless, this is an enjoyable record. It doesn't contain any pop-metal masterpieces like Kiss' "Shout It out Loud" or Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz," but tracks like "Cherry Baby" and "Rock Six Times" are certainly decent. Most of the time, Starz vocalist Michael Lee Smith sings about the same things that Kiss and Sweet were singing about in the '70s; namely, all-night parties and wild young women in tight dresses. Starz's lyrics, as a rule, were meant to be fun, not profound, and while Violation didn't go down in history as one of pop-metal's all-time classics, it's worth hearing if you're a fan of the style. ~ Alex Henderson

$12.45 Up until their 1974 album, PHENOMENON, England's UFO had issued several albums that did little to expand their cult fan base at home, let alone worldwide. But through an early-'70s tour with German metallists the Scorpions, they finally found the missing piece to the puzzle--guitar wizard Michael Schenker. UFO convinced Schenker to leave the Scorpions (which wasn't an easy task, since his older brother Rudolf was a member), and their '74 release sounds like a band reborn.
Schenker's stellar playing seems to have lit a fire under the compositions, many of which rank amongst UFO's all-time best--namely the soon-to-be live show-stoppers "Doctor Doctor," and "Rock Bottom" (as evidenced on UFO's classic STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT live set). PHENOMENON set the stage perfectly for such future hit UFO releases as LIGHTS OUT and OBSESSION.
Guitarist Michael Schenker's impact upon UFO's career cannot be overestimated. Before the German teenager's arrival (he was only 19 when he jumped ship from the Scorpions), the British rockers' early albums of half-baked space rock had been completely ignored everywhere but Japan. But with Schenker on board, the group's sound would receive a well-needed ...

Force It album
$11.59 Although Euro-rockers UFO had built a solid fan base worldwide amongst metal heads with such releases as PHENOMENON, FORCE IT, and NO HEAVY PETTING, the band had yet to issue a solid album from beginning to end. This changed with their 1977 release, LIGHTS OUT.
As with the aforementioned titles, guitarist Michael Schenker's six-string heroics are the real determining factor to UFO's sound--look no further than his fluid soloing skills on the barnstorming title track. But you'll find other metallic standouts throughout LIGHTS OUT, such as the album-opening good times anthem "Too Hot to Handle," ...

$11.35 UFO had finally fulfilled their potential with 1977's exceptional hard rock tour de force, LIGHTS OUT, and released another prime slice of heavy metal just one year later, OBSESSION. While most '70s Euro-metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, etc., dealt largely ...

| | Bobby Trates Perplexing Bend CD (2006)
Force It CD music
$16.45 REVIEW:Bobby Trates’ latest offering “Perplexing Bend” begins with all of the subtlety of a fierce kick to the gut or a razor sharp punch to the solar plexus. The guitarist is clearly on a “ no holds barred”mission with this, his third cd. In the opening tune “Goddess”, BT grabs your attention immediately with a heavy and forceful burst of crunching rhythm playing as he sings passionately with more than a hint of anger about arrogance resulting from perceived beauty. Fitting of the cd title, the song ends with a ferocious barrage of bends and a dazzling array of guitar pyrotechnics that swirl, climb and dive. The second song “No Reason” continues the intense pace of the first song as the writer wonders why someone is against him for no reason. This song is immediately catchy and the guitarist articulately weaves between different time signatures alternating between slow and fast rhythm playing. This song also houses a very catchy and well defined guitar solo.“Under The Wing” is an instrumental with blistering guitar solos that are sandwiched in between a very melodic guitar riff that is extremely memorable. “Strange” continues the relentless pace of chunky rhythm playing with just the right amount of distortion and paints a picture of someone wandering lost on a road to madness as the writer’s “world is coming apart at the seams”.This song has a “strange” rapid fire solo that fittingly paints a picture of agony and desperation. “It Ain’t Easy” follows with a more straight ahead rock sound with ultra tasty guitar hooks and a terrific descending guitar solo. On the next song “Your So Close, Yet So Far Away”, the guitarist changes gears and easily slides into a more melodic mode. This is one of the best songs on the cd with frighteningly beautiful guitar solos that may very well capture this guitarists’ defining and crowning moment.....simply full of taste and feeling. Magnificent! BT refocuses on in your face power chord progressions on “Gravel Teeth”, an angry, yet refreshing song about resisting the persistence of Satan and evil as the guitarist declares “your throne will crumble”. The cd ends with an absolutely haunting and beautiful alluring instrumental entitled “Thinking Of You”that is chock full of melodic guitar phrasing. On this song, BT invites close friends that play guitar to provide solos throughout the song. BT’s friends, Ivan Romero, Ron Silvestri, and Joey Mangano jr each play an extended solo part, and complement each other and BT very nicely.BT begins the song with an awe-inspiring and sadly reflective guitar phrase that is instantly appealing and captivating. The guitarist’s produces inspiring solos that emit various feelings ranging from sadness to a feeling of deep angelic dreams to heartfelt passion to peace and hope. While the cd begins explosively it ends leaving the listener entranced in a landscape of wonderful interwoven melodies by four accomplished guitarist’s...and this listener wanted to hear more! In summary fashion, this latest ...
