From the summer of 1969 to the final show in March of 1971 (58 episodes in all), The Johnny Cash TV show exposed the American audience to an array of musical talent, and Cash as an artist, humanitarian, and legend. On this 2 DVD deluxe set with 28 page booklet, the 66 performances included showcase the spectrum of performers that Johnny picked to be on the show, including Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Louis Armstrong, Stevie Wonder, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Linda Ronstadt, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins, James Taylor, Pete Seeger, Carter Family, Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins, Tennessee Three, Mother Maybelle Carter, Carter Sisters, Straying far from straight country billing, THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW welcomed a wide variety of musical artists during its tenure from 1969 to 1971. Reaching across musical barriers, Cash welcomed artists that ranged from country rebel Waylon Jennings to R&B star Stevie Wonder. No surprise, as Cash himself chafed against the musical constraints imposed by Nashville. Included here are 66 performances that show artists working at the peak of their creativity, including a trio of songs by a velvet-voiced Bob Dylan (during his NASHVILLE SKYLINE phase); a jam session with Cash, Eric Clapton, and Carl Perkins; and plenty of duets featuring the Man in Black with, among others, Louis Armstrong, Roy Orbison, and Cash's wife, June Carter. Throughout the show, viewers feel Cash's personal touch and graciousness as he welcomes these legendary artists to the stage, his home. Other guests include George Jones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Kris Kristofferson, Conway Twitty, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell. Best Of The Johnny Cash TV Show DVD
$24.29 Taking the place of the obligatory cd two-fer of GP and GREVIOUS ANGEL, Gram Parsons's THE COMPLETE REPRISE SESSIONS covers it all and then some for Grampires of all stripes. Produced by Emmylou Harris and Parsons cohort James Austin, this beautifully designed three-disc set includes one disc devoted to each solo record and a third featuring outtakes from each album's sessions. With fewer overdubs and Gram and Emmylou's vocals front-and-center in the mix, the final disc brims with the emotive soul and earthbound angelic vocals the two perfected. Among the final discs many highlights are looser alternate takes of "She" and "Streets of Baltimore" from GP and a "Hickory Wind" unadorned by the ridiculous fake crowd noise that mars the GRIEVOUS ANGEL version. The latter is the best and most stirring recorded ...

| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
Best Of The Johnny Cash TV Show video
$16.02 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's trademark.
The weakest studio album recorded with Jim Morrison in the group, partially because their experiments with brass and strings on about half ...
