(2 Customer Reviews)
Kenny Chesney titled his 11th studio album JUST WHO I AM: POETS AND PIRATES out of the belief that modern country musicians contain a bit of both, due to their artistic nature and their peripheral, "on the road again" lifestyles. The album features elements of both, combining some of Chesney's sweetest love songs with a handful of rowdy country rockers for balance. One of the latter, "Wild Ride," is a manic party tune featuring the Eagles' Joe Walsh for just the right shade of dissolute atmosphere. The other duet, the twangy working man's anthem "Shiftwork," features George Strait in his comfortable new role as the elder statesman of Nashville's new traditionalists. Between those two songs, highlights include the philosophical "Don't Blink," the rowdy "Got A Little Crazy," and the lovely "Better As A Memory." Chesney is in fine voice throughout, and the song selection is, as always, a top-notch set of Music Row's finest, making JUST WHO I AM: POETS AND PIRATES yet another solid outing by one of Nashville's most dependable hitmakers.

Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates
$9.85 Brad Paisley's music is an interesting amalgam of country sub-genres, a paradigm all its own. He melds straightforward, pop-friendly New Country with clever, somewhat Lyle Lovett-like songwriting and the occasional flutter of Joe Maphis/Jimmy Bryant-style guitar virtuosity. Surprisingly ...
| | Kenny Chesney Road And The Radio CD (2005)
Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates
$9.99 Although most of the attention Kenny Chesney garnered in 2005 was for his brief marriage to actress Renee Zellweger, he also managed to release two studio albums during that year--the laid-back, island-hopping BE AS YOU ARE and THE ROAD AND THE RADIO, a more straightforward country outing. The latter record revisits his earlier style, spending ...

Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates

| | Rascal Flatts Still Feels Good CD (2007)
Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates
$10.49 Three years after the release of their breakthrough smash FEELS LIKE TODAY, STILL FEELS GOOD continues the winning streak of Nashville trio Rascal Flatts. Although their music is rooted in traditional bluegrass and the pure harmonies of the first wave of country bands from the Carter Family to the Stanley Brothers, STILL FEELS GOOD ranges even further afield of those roots than their previous work. "Bob That Head," a flirtation with country rap along the lines of Big and Rich, and the R&B smoothness of "She Goes All the Way" (which features a guest vocal by actor and singer Jamie Foxx) are the most pop-oriented songs on the album. Elsewhere, "Help Me Remember" and "No Reins" work the power ballad angle of Bon Jovi's country crossover LOST ...
