Last Of The Libertine album
$22.10 This three-album retrospective of bassist Eberhard Weber's group, Colours, recorded between 1975 and 1980, is striking musically, historically, culturally, and creatively. As American and British jazz musicians were employing electric instruments to create edgier, funkier, and more stridently knotty music, many Northern Europeans were exploring an entirely different sonic universe: creating another pathway in jazz. Weber's work would help to define the ECM imprint's sound. Weber founded Colours in 1974 with saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Charlie Mariano, keyboardist Rainer Bruninghaus, and drummer Jon Christensen -- to be replaced in by John Marshall in 1977. Its 1975 debut, Yellow Fields, put painterly touches into a sonic kaleidescope that explored tonal and harmonic realms with acute compositional and improvisational attention to the space that surrounded jazz. No matter ...
| | Allen Toussaint Bright Mississippi CD (2009)
Last Of The Libertine CD music
$15.79 Fans of legendary New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint may at first be surprised that, for his first album in over a decade, the producer, songwriter, and pianist would choose to forgo recording his own stellar material in favor of a collection of cover tunes. The songs here aren't just any songs, however, but a rich selection of Big Easy standards, as interpreted by one of the city's most gifted musical sons. The resulting ...

| | Dave Koz Greatest Hits CD (2008)
Last Of The Libertine album
$12.29 As radio show host, live performer, and studio musician, saxophonist Dave Koz has proven himself as one of the most enduring stars of the smooth jazz scene. His bright, lithe tone is equally adaptable to settings funky, dramatic, and mellow. GREATEST HITS provides not only a fine, balanced overview but includes four brand-new songs as well. HITS also features collaborations with similarly inclined musicians, including trumpeter Chris Botti, gospel/R&B vocalist BeBe Winans, and the late soul icon Luther Vandross. For ...
| | Chuck Mangione An Evening Of Magic, Live At The Hollywood Bowl CDs (1978)
Last Of The Libertine CD music
$11.99 Recorded live at the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, California on July 17, 1978. Includes liner notes by Chuck Cassell.
All track have been digitally remastered.
Recorded at the height of Chuck Mangione's fame when "Feels So Good" was still busting up the charts, this double-LP set attempts to recapture the dynamism of his earlier live albums but falls short on a few counts. For one thing, the sound gives the listener no idea of what it was like to be in the audience that evening; there are only fleeting traces of the live presence and electricity of the event in this tightly mic'ed recording. For another, the sense of fresh discovery of a new voice in the Mercury sets is replaced by a mostly self-congratulatory round of reprises from earlier albums, centered in the jazz-funk idiom of Mangione's then-current quintet (the funkified "Hill Where the Lord Hides" in particular lacks the majesty and tension of the original live version). Mangione and his sidemen (Chris Vadala, winds; Grant Geissman, guitars; Charles Meeks, bass; James Bradley, Jr., drums) are sufficiently pumped up and energetic, sometimes outdoing the ...
| | Henry Dool Makossa Potomac CD (2003) (Import)
Last Of The Libertine music CDs
$15.45 Henry Dool, who hails from Cameroon, has always been an entertainer from childhood. His love of music landed him in France, where he released several albums with various groups. He also worked as a dancer and choreographer for several artists in Europe's pop scene. Though Cameroon's mainstream music is "Makossa," he never particularly wanted to limit his style and therefore found an inclination towards pop music. His journey to the U.S has proven to give him an opportunity to make it or break it; the stage is set. "Ayo Mba Nde" is an illuminating sultry album that speaks for itself. Fusing the aroma of African vocals with Hip-Hop rhythms and occasionally interjected by rap cues, Henry Dool sets his mark as a ...

| | Eidolon Live To Dance CD (2004)
Last Of The Libertine album
$18.25 The duo of Joe Scott (featured instrument, double-neck guitjo) and Hannah Alkire (cello) start the disc in a Spanish mode, with Scott on nylon string, and the effect of the percussive title track is like listening to an outtake from the great flamenco guitar/violin duo Willie & Lobo. Once Scott switches to his high-pitched, harplike primary instrument, they never stay in one vibe for long, going from a classical-flavored take on Bread's "If" to Celtic, bluegrass, and Latin influences. Their outside song selections range from the jig "Drowsy Maggie" to "Maggie Cameron," but Scott is also an effective composer, creating a lovely, contemplative mood on the snappy "The Celtic Hammer" and "Eminence." ...
| | Cirkestra Pinocchio CD (2006)
Last Of The Libertine CD music
$12.15 "You can detect a bit of Nino Rota-ish Italian folk in Avventure di Pinocchio, which was written for Circus Smirkus's telling of the Carlo Collodi story, with a lovely clarinet theme for Geppetto."-Jon Garelick: Boston Phoenix"Musical Acrobats" - Jon Garelick: Boston Phoenix"Perhaps the most unusual musical group in Boston." -Brett Milano: B.U. Today"Fabulous...timeless and original, a combo you don't see every day" - Nancy Sheehan: Worcester TelegramThis 16 song CD is a diverse assemblage of instrumentals composed by circus musician Peter Bufano. He wrote this music in June 2005 for Circus Smirkus. The show, under the direction of founder Rob Mermin, was based on the story of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. This is the score for a one ring circus in which all of the performers are children. Bufano has played keyboards for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Big Apple Circus, and Bindlestiff Circus too so he's no stranger to the circus world. In fact, he's been in and out of the Circuses in the united states and abroad since 1987. Bufano has managed to remain somewhat obscure while churning out a diverse body of work although his quirky ...
