BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Born in Columbia, Missouri, Brian Elder has been writing and performing original music for over a decade. His diverse style of music has been called everything from “folky, jazz-inflected funk” by the St. Louis Post Dispatch to “striking melodies with abounding instrumentation,” by the University News at St. Louis University. A classically trained violinist since age five Elder has performed with several groups most notably a five year run as lead vocalist, guitarist, and violinist with the St. Louis jam band E. M. Grueve. The group performed extensively throughout the Mid-west and released three albums in five years together. During 2005 Elder began writing and recording his first solo album Preservation Hall set for release March 29, 2006. Sal-t is a band devoted to spreading the word of Jesus Christ through music. We are not only a band, but a ministry. God called us two years ago to do the impossible for 3 regular teens that didn't know anything about music. He asked us to make 2 cds (one in english and one in spanish)by faith. So, we did just that. As brother and sisters, we accomplished that what was asked. The youngest one, Kathy Rodriguez (now 14), wrote the songs, played keyboards and did some vocals, Karla Rodriguez (20), plays bass and does vocals, and Gerse Rodriguez (21) played drums.It was then, that after making two cds, were we to go and minister with those songs given to us. Everything accomplished up to this point was all God's glory revealing itself through us. But that was two years ago. Now, we have released our 4th album titled "SPEAK". Starting with the intent to evade the "singer" role that is typically attached to "/songwriter", Dan Torres at first looked to others to add vocals to his songs. Although he found his "voice" early on as a songwriter and musician, it took some trial and error to discover his singing voice, which is anything but typical. Pushing the limits laid down by artists like Robert Plant, Ours, and Chris Cornell, its almost impossible to believe that "singer" and "songwriter" didnt always go together for Dan.Dan began showing an interest in the arts at a very young age. He excelled in creative classes, going above and beyond his teachers expectations.
