A sampler of contemporary reggae artists, from roots to dancehall, this fourth volume in the Reggae Now series has a fresh, bright feel and pulses with a hopeful tone, thanks in part to Kemar McGregor's clear production. Highlights include the throwback roots sound of Dwayne's "Rudeboy Shuffling," Luciano's moving and sincere "More Love," Chezidek's nyahbinghi-infused "No Fear," and Perfect's soaring "Babylon Boy," which sounds at times like the Beach Boys gone seriously Rasta dancehall. It is easy to think that reggae's greatest moments are in the past, but compilations of fresh songs like the ones included on this disc provide glimmers of a new and bright incarnation taking shape in the crucible of the Jamaican dancehalls and project studios. ~ Steve Leggett
