| | Reggae Now Vol. 4 CD
A sampler of contemporary reggae artists, from roots to dancehall, this fourth volume in the Reggae Now series has a fresh, bright feel and pulses with a hopeful tone, thanks in part to Kemar McGregor's clear production. Highlights include the throwback roots sound of Dwayne's "Rudeboy Shuffling," Luciano's moving and sincere "More Love," Chezidek's nyahbinghi-infused "No Fear," and Perfect's soaring "Babylon Boy," which sounds at times like the Beach Boys gone seriously Rasta dancehall. It is easy to think that reggae's greatest moments are in the past, but compilations of fresh songs like the ones included on this disc provide glimmers of a new and bright incarnation taking shape in the crucible of the Jamaican dancehalls and project studios. ~ Steve Leggett

| | Mountain Heart Road That Never Ends: The Live Album CD (2007)
Reggae Now Vol. 4 music CDs
$14.19 There are lots of bluegrass bands out there that play bluegrass arrangements of rock & roll songs, and there are lots of bluegrass bands that do their best work in a live setting. But very few manage to play in a generally traditional style while also imbuing their live performances with the kind of energy associated with the best rock & roll. Mountain Heart's ability to do just that is the first thing that will strike you about this live album, recorded in 2007 at the Ark in Ann Arbor, MI. The first three songs roar along with the force of a hurricane, uniting speed and soulfulness in a way that is frankly kind of hard to believe. When they slow things down the effect is hardly ...

$16.45 Having met in the summer of 2006 through ads in music shops and the internet, Kent, Tracey and Gareth (an American and two Brits, all currently living in the Kingston-Upon-Hull area of the UK) entered a practice studio to see what would happen when they played together. Something clicked, and over the next few months around the kitchen table musical ideas were tossed about. When they were finished they had a set of songs that would take on a life ...
