Tineke Postma's third CD as a leader is an impressive effort, as she is finding her own voice on both alto and soprano sax, while also making her recorded debut on tenor. Joined by bassist Frans van der Hoeven and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, along with a rotating trio of pianists (Marc van Roon, Rob Van Bavel and Randal Corsen), Postma's originals avoid predictability and hook the listener immediately, starting with the dark, Latin-flavored "Bar Celta." "A Journey That Matters" is a driving post-bop work, an infectious arrangement by Johan Plomp that adds a brass/reed choir behind the leader's darting soprano. Postma's robust tenor is featured in the intricate "Synchronicity," while her lush alto is showcased in "Comprendo." But her fresh approaches to well known songs will especially turn heads. She takes quite a few liberties with Duke Ellington's "Prelude to a Kiss," giving it a Latin rhythm and stretching its melodic structure well away from its roots with long inspired flights on soprano. In a miniature setting of Billy Strayhorn' "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing," her brooding alto is accented by the rhythm section's jagged, spacious background. Finally, Postma's soprano soars in Plomp's scoring of Ellington's "Fleurette Africaine," as he blends in dramatic acoustic guitar with French horn, bass clarinet, bassoon and flute as an effective backdrop. ~ Ken Dryden

Down Beat (p.64) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "By taking her time and seeking a balance of feeling and sophistication, Postma takes the listener on the most rewarding of these saxophonic excursions."

"An album that that gets more amazing every time you listen to it. Like "Pet Sounds" and Beck's "Odelay" rich with secrets and surprises one can uncover for years..." - Nick Geidner music review from Youngstownscene.com "It is a wonderous journey through the sonic universe touching on everything from americana, old school hip-hop, blues, folk, country, rock, and Khaled. And I love it."- Kevin Povec music review "Sitting on the wall that serves as his stage near the entrance of The Mocha House in Boardman, Khaled Tabbara, junior, telecommunication, has a look that matches his sound. His navy blue stocking cap almost completely covers his newly bleached hair. His button down shirt and khakis are interrupted by his oversized belt buckle that reads "country." He is a mix of different styles, influenced by many different sources, and his music is reflective of this."-C. Nineteen 5 Blind Eye Gone CD  (2004)

Journey That Matters CD music
CD $11.39
*****Nineteen 5 (N5) is a female fronted Seattle metal-tinged rock band. Thanks in part to a rapidly growing fan base and early exposure in local venues, Nineteen 5 are generating quite a buzz in the Puget Sound region. The band quietly formed during the Summer of 2001 and aggressively began performing (50+ shows) in area clubs early in 2002. Described by fans as "a fresh Seattle Sound", Nineteen 5's raw energetic sound and musicianship have been likened to local ensembles Pearl Jam, Hammerbox, and Goodness. Lead singer Christine Wayne's strong, lyric voice and playful stage presence have also been labeled reminiscent of Ann Wilson, who Christine counts among her musical influences, as well as Janis Joplin, Siouxsie Sioux, and Stevie Nicks.****Christine Wayne-Vocals; Kevin Watkins-Guitar; Aaron Barber-Drums; Brad Harriss-Bass/Backing Vocals***Watch out Courtney Love there's a new girl in town... Seattle based, and female fronted Nineteen 5 are here to show they can rock with the best of em and have come to kick your ass. Energy, angst and pure un-adultered lyrics ooze from the heart and soul of singer Christine Wayne as she commands your attention with haunting vocals on tracks such as: Satellites, Down and Lollipop Eyes.Mesmerizing guitar licks provided by Kevin Watkins and a rock solid rhythm section courtesy of Brad Hariss & Aaron Barber suck you into a whirlpool of a ride. This band doesn't stop until you are drenched from head to toe. Purely magical and undoubtedly prepared to take the world by storm, the combination of well crafted music, high octane tunes and impressive delivery will leave you craving more. Nineteen 5, keep an eye to the sky!**After twenty some years in the business of music I have learned to pay attention to both my ears and my head. While hosting a benefit for the homeless in the Seattle area I was privileged to listen to twelve of the areas best bar bands. Halfway through the event I had become used to great skill and absolute professional level talent. I was not prepared for the impact of Nineteen 5. This small quartet (is it possible for four people to make that much sound?) didn't just raise the ...

Paradox Heresy CD  (1989) Remastered

Journey That Matters album
CD $13.65  Audio Samples
On their first album, 1987's Product of Imagination, Germany's Paradox came across as a quite competent but inconsistent speed metal band; but on their second, 1989's Heresy, they emerged as world-beating thrashers! In fact, Heresy's only discernible weakness may be its rather obvious inspirational debt to Anthrax's all-time classic Among the Living (in particular on "Search for Perfection" and "Killtime"), but then, New ...
