| | The Ultimate Bee Gees CDs (2009)
Broken Safety 2 CD music
$15.24 Functioning as something of a replacement for the 2001 collection Their Greatest Hits: The Record, The Ultimate Bee Gees covers much of the same ground as that double-disc set, albeit in not quite so linear a fashion. The Record marched through its 40 tracks chronologically, opening with the stately baroque Beatlesque pop of the '60s and then winding through the '70s, whereas this opens with the bright, fabulous blast of "You Should Be Dancing" and remains in their late-'70s heyday for a while before fast-forwarding to such latter-day adult contemporary hits as "One." We don't get to "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" and "I Started a Joke" until halfway through the second disc, and this jumbled, almost haphazard sequencing ...
| | Isaac Hayes Shaft (Deluxe Edition) CD (1971) Bonus Track; Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Broken Safety 2 music CDs
$9.58 Despite its codification into our collective pop culture consciousness, Isaac Hayes' "Theme From Shaft" is a highly original composition. It's been remade by Hayes himself for the remade Shaft film, and appropriately kicks off this collection of tunes from the movie by some of R&B's New Jacks.
A diverse selection of artists encompass the collection, from lascivious soul stirrer R. Kelly to the rugged Latin hip-hop of Fulanito, along with many other noteworthy diversions that represent the many flavors of contemporary urban soul. Most of the material focuses on John Shaft's street smarts and bravado, or the film's pimps, hoes, and gangsta imagery. As expected, Southern hip-hop is well represented, with Outkast, Mystikal, and Big Gipp from Goodie Mob contributing. The tracks offer typically gritty observations on street life, over bleak, minor chords and busy percussion. T.I.P. featuring Beanie Sigel offers "2 Glock 9's," one of the soundtrack's most rugged grooves, a minimal, stripped-down drum break that stutters and skids backwards and forwards over a Notorious BIG vocal sample and ...

| | Maxwell Now CD (2001)
Broken Safety 2 CD music
$8.49 "Lifetime" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Rebounding from the slight sophomore lag generated by 1998's EMBRYA, Maxwell's follow-up NOW abandons the neo-soul man's usual M.O. of using a conceptual arc of songs, and instead focuses on individual cuts. Romance remains the main ingredient found in this Brooklyn native's banquet of song, and although he stands firmly in the neo-soul camp of D'Angelo and Erykah, his use of various stylistic nuances once again stamps him as an original item. Twangy country-flavored licks and subtle DJ scratches pop up throughout the lament "Was My Girl," and scratchy rock guitar riffs are sparingly used over the heavy groove of "Temporary Nite." At the centerpiece is a studio version of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work," a staple of Maxwell's concerts previously showcased on the live 1997 EP UNPLUGGED. Delivered with a crystalline falsetto, delicate strings and ...

Broken Safety 2 album
$10.65 Take a Christmas Walk with Raison D'Etre...Raison D'Etre carols each winter at an event called "Frontier Christmas" near Maysville, KY. "Christmas Belles" is their effort to preserve the feeling of those three-hour outdoor performances along the rough stone footpaths of Old Washington, an 18th Century settlement along the Ohio River. Often described by the trio as their "bonnet head" gig, since pioneer attire is required for most performers and artisans, this caroling renews Raison D'Etre each season and reminds them how good it feels to make a joyful noise.OK, so sometimes the carols sound decidedly 20th Century. Part of the charm of caroling is surprising the unsuspecting revelers with an occasional Andrews Sisters tune. So while you're gathered in ...

Broken Safety 2 album
$16.45 CL CL Curtis is blessed with unbelievable musical talent. As a young lad he was obsessed with playing the steel pan. He would sneak away from home for a few minutes at a time to join the older boys at the pan yard. At age fourteen he started summer jobs and saved up enough to buy himself a guitar as a Christmas present. He was eager to learn but there was no one in his village to help him with this major task ahead. There was no music program in country schools. After a few months of trying desperately to make sense of the fretboard, someone gave him the idea to go to the capital city - St. George's - and buy a guitar cord book. He went and looked the whole damn town over and couldn't find a book. Fortunately a gentleman at the music store was able to draw on a piece of paper the cords of C, F,G, A & A minor and the rest is history. By age eighteen Curtis started his own combo band playing lead guitar. His neighborhood of Paradise now boasts its own string band. Great things began happening, winning band competitions. Backing up singers on tour. Playing at great parties etc. The band was doing very well but Curtis, after five years, was leaving for Canada. ...
