World Of Music-South America album
$15.65 Celtic Woman, initially a one-shot collaboration by six leading Irish vocalists for a 2004 PBS special, struck a chord of adoration for the Emerald Isle, a fancy affecting both sides of the Atlantic, and swiftly became a permanent collective. THE GREATEST JOURNEY captures many of the best moments of elegant harmonizing by the act, from their serene and rapturous take on Enya's "Orinoco Flow" to the mournful yet poppily uplifting indigenous folk of "You Raise Me Up."
Import pressing includes two bonus tracks, Mo Ghile ...
| | Dead Can Dance/Garden Of The Arcane Delight CD (1984) Reissue; Special Edition; Extended Play
World Of Music-South America CD music
$11.99 On the evidence of this, the band's first record, Dead Can Dance can clearly be seen as a "Goth" group in the vein of Bauhaus, et al. The band's sound here is much more clearly based in the "contemporary"--Dead Can Dance uses traditional song structures, the group's instrumentation ...
| | Victor Jara Antologia Musical CD (2003) Remastered; Remastered Edition
World Of Music-South America music CDs
$20.95 ANTOLOGIA MUSICAL collects the best-loved tracks from legendary Chilean folk artist and political prisoner Victor Jara, on two CDs.
Chilean singer Victor Jara's tragic death in 1973 (following the overthrow of Salvador Allende's government) robbed the world of one its most humane voices. A leading light in South America's nueva cancion movement, Jara wrote passionately and courageously about the rights of the downtrodden, but he also composed wonderful love songs as well as a handful of songs that displayed his wry sense of humor. This 45-track, two-disc collection was drawn largely from vinyl and cassette sources, since the master reels ...

| | Vanessa Da Mata Sim CD (2007)
World Of Music-South America album
$11.29 Sim is Vanessa da Mata's third album and the first after the huge commercial success of Essa Boneca Tem Manual, from 2004. If Essa Boneca Tem Manual was a blatant, although undeniably very successful, appeal to pure commercialism and the radio hit lists, Sim is a firm step back towards a more intellectual approach to Brazilian pop music. Liminha, who produced the last album, has been substituted by the hip and hyped production duo Kassin and Mario Caldato. As usual when Kassin is involved, the result is an excellent and very fresh sounding production which manages to give a very modern impression without appearing fake or overproduced. Sim was partly recorded in Jamaica, and reggae is indeed one of the primary themes of the album. "Vermelho," "Ilegais," and "Absurdo" are all pure reggae songs. And as a bonus, Sly & Robbie, one of Jamaica's most acclaimed and prolific producer teams, contribute on five tracks. A less welcome guest appearance is that ...

| | Silver Seas High Society CD (2007)
World Of Music-South America songs
$10.45 Rock has come roaring back in recent years, and it's now de rigueur for critics to hear most music through a '70s prism. Thus the Silver Seas (formerly the Bees) have found themselves tagged as soft rock and mentioned rather bizarrely in the same sentence as many of that genre's singer/songwriter heroes. In truth, though, the prior decade seems to be where the group draw much of their inspiration. Their harmonies, for instance, oft times echo the Beach Boys, particularly on the lavish "We'll Go Walking" and the bouncy "Hard Luck Tom," although "Ms. November" is the best girl group-styled song ever sung by boys. And then there are Daniel Tashian's marvelous guitars, which shimmer, shine, and jangle, a sublime blend of Big Star and Byrds, especially notable on the brilliant pop of "Imaginary Girl." On the rumbling "Catch Yer Own Train," Tashian shifts into western style, while the harmonies and a wailing harmonica ...
