The mishmash of synth pop and power punk on the trio's sophomore release kicked any prior notion of the band's identity into orbit. Where they began to dig their own punk-pop niche à la Stellar Kart on their debut, heavy doses of keyboard transform and almost confuse their sound on Galactic Conquest. One minute they approach Relient K's tongue-in-cheek believer punk, the next minute they channel the soul of peppy '80s synth pop. While the juxtaposition appears to be an attempt at varying their sound, the annoyance factor weighs heavily by the end of the CD. "Galaxies Collide" and "Program Terminated" sound like a cross between a Gameboy soundtrack and aerobics instructions. Lyrically, the Christian themes continue -- for example, finding an identity with God on "Fight to Save Your Life" and "Retail Value." ~ Jared Johnson Eleventyseven Galactic Conquest Songs Galactic Conquest Review

Galactic Conquest
$9.79 Creativity and wit caused this punk-pop trio's debut to rise to the top of a crowded genre. With the path for parent-approved punk having been paved by Relient K some years prior, saying something truly unique at warp speed posed a challenge. To their credit, lead vocalist/guitarist Matt Langston, bassist Caleb Satterfield, and drummer Jonathan Stephens gave punk-pop fans reason to rediscover the genre ...

Galactic Conquest
$12.65 Mercenary 6 was born Maurice Lawson on August 20, 1979 in the edge of the East Bay Area in a small town called Pittsburg, CA. Growing up he had many talents when it came to music like playing the drums for his junior high school and church, saxophone, clarinet. When it came time for high school he became more interested in the sport of football, but by that time music hadn't become a passion to think about. During his early teenage years, he became troubled; drinking and drugs became a trend in his high school so therefore he participated in it. This was the reason why his grades and attendance dropped. By the time he turn 15, Maurice was jumped by a group of older boys and was beaten severely. His mother feared for his life and moved away to the heart of Silicon Valley. By being in a school with no type of violent environment, he still managed to find trouble. He was small so bigger kids tend to pick on him so he began fighting all the time, which meant suspensions. To occupy himself he participated on the athletic field in football as he did his freshman year at Pittsburg High. He attended class to keep his grades up so that his dreams of a scholarship would hopefully come through. He became an all league wide receiver his senior year, but encountered a knee injury during track season that ended his dreams of being a pro athlete. After college, Maurice got his degree in Business Management. He chose that major to one day own his own business but had no clue in what. He and childhood friend D.J. Jones have done music together since the age of 14. D.J. was into gospel rap but Maurice was into worldly rap. Maurice felt that the music D.J. made was too soft and suggested to lace hardcore beats with gospel lyrics. D.J. didn't think it would be appropriate but tried it anyway. Since then, it became a successful combination. Maurice has never been into gospel rap until he had a miraculous experience of his own. Maurice dedicated his life to Christ when he almost ran over a family crossing the street while under the influence. He knew if his car wouldn't have "miraculously" switched into neutral when accelerating, he knew he would have done time. From that point he decided to live as righteous as he can. He and D.J. decided the form an independent label called G.I. Entertainment; Gospel Insomnia. He had hip-hop influences like E-40, Spice 1, 2 Pac, OutKast, and Twista. He listened to these rappers so much he ended up with a similar style but decided to give it a gospel twist. Maurice decided to go by the name Mercenary 6 because he felt he was sent to teach the truth and to receive his reward, which is everlasting life. Never knowing he had the talent of beat making he now produces for a range of underground ...
