| | Puerto Rican Power Los Exitos De La PRP Vol. II CD Puerto Rican Power Discography of CDs
A highly successful Puerto Rican combo with a catalogue overflowing with hits, Puerto Rican Power favors a robust, conservative brand of straight-ahead salsa that seeks, above all, to please the bailadores (dancers). In its early days, the group boasted the phenomenal Tito Rojas as its lead singer. After Rojas left, the band placed an emphasis on rich arrangements and tight instrumental interplay.
The fact that almost every cut here is a hit makes the collection especially recommended for the novice listener. And the lyrics are a treat by themselves, like those of "Noche de Boda," the monologue of a newlywed husband who explains to his wife that she shouldn't worry about having lost her virginity before meeting him. Such piquant tales are complemented beautifully by the smoothness and savoir faire of the production. Los Exitos De La PRP Vol. II music CDs
$5.99 Many jazz and classical musicians labor under the delusion that all rock lyrics are sophomoric in nature and devoid of depth -- that rock artists are incapable of addressing complex emotions and only write songs about getting drunk and getting laid. Anyone who is that ill-informed has never listened to emocore, a style of alternative rock that is all about serious introspection. In fact, introspection is the thing that defines Overcast Days, the debut album by Long Island emocore quartet the Summerland. This CD doesn't favor mindless, frivolous escapism; a serious tone defines "Forsaken," "Day Breakdown," and other emotionally complex offerings. There is nothing wrong with frivolity or mindless escapism in rock or any other genre of music -- frivolity certainly has its place, and party music that celebrates fun and escapism (which could be anything from Kiss and Motley Crüe to the Village People) definitely serves ...

Los Exitos De La PRP Vol. II songs
$11.39 Even more startling than the wham-bam, doo-wop introduction, is Lupis naming all of his music skills in one breath: "I sing, I sing lyrical opera, I play violin, marimba, saxophone, piano, bass, and drums, I produce, I record, I used to have a heavy-metal band, I played rock, performed in musicals."If that's not enough to drive an uncomfortable wedge between Lupis and all of us cadet band drop-outs, then get this: The smattering of sounds on Juguetes, come from the many styles he picked up while contributing as a musician and sound mixer for some 30 other albums, as well as TV jingles, movie soundtracks, orchestras, and plays. "I'm interested in things that I don't like," he explains enthusiastically over the phone. "I want to know why I don't like them, because that takes me to places I'd never have imagined possible."Since, for example, Lupis says, he never really liked the opera, he figured that was reason to commit three years of study to the subject. The opera training, which he picked up along with studies in violin and guitar at Buenos Aires's Manuel de Falla Municipal Conservatory, helped him develop his lungs and project his voice. It also lent a theatrical touch to the harmonic pop crooning he emulated from the Beatles, not to mention the heavy metal he thrashed into head-first as a teenager. All of these styles were further solidified with studies in sound and recording technology at Argentina's National University of Lanús.In an era of so much musical fusion, it's difficult to simply refer to Lupis as "eclectic," but he says, "I try to make sure the songs have a personality, that the drive behind them always sounds like mine -- ...
