| Mahler lean
This disc has impeccable clarity and sound.I have the hybrid, but alas, not the equipment to play the SACD. Zinman does not create the rather dense mushy sound others achieve.. He brings the solo instruments and small tutti forward and one hears the articulation of the orchestra more clearly than in other recordings. Whether it is the best Mahler 3, I can't say, but of the three I now own Bernstein, Levi and Ziman, it takes first place. The alto, Birgit Remmert, is no Ludwig, but sings with passion and supports the meaning of the words beautifully.
