They invite guest artists to each performance, continually introducing fresh ideas and constantly pushing the boundaries of rhythm, harmony and melody. Adam Wolff plays keyboards and Larry Davis Vernec plays bass. Participating Guest Musicians on this album: Derek Cannon, Trumpet P-Trak, Percussion Founding Member Bio's:Adam Wolff:Wolff was born in raised in the New York area. He has been playing piano and keyboards since 1965. Moving through the worlds of classical, jazz, musicals, rock, free-form, latin, world, and film scores, he has absorbed all these influences and more. Wolff received a BFA from Brooklyn University, with Summa Cum Laude honors. He also studied with three of the greatest players in the area: Mike Longo (Dizzy Gillespie's pianist for many years), Barry Harris (the be-bop keeper of the flame), who lived with Thelonious Monk, and knew Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, Dizzy, etc. And third, Kenny Werner, the modern master of the jazz idiom. During the years in New York, he performed with countless musicians in many different settings, as well as composing and teaching. Since relocating to San Diego in the early 90's, Wolff has been active in the music scene, performing with numerous ensembles. Jazz is his number one love, in all its variations. Larry Davis Vernec:Davis, a Montreal native has been playing jazz in the San Diego area for over 20 years, studied with renown bassist John Leftwich (Hubert Laws, Jeff Lorber, Carmen McRae, Leo Kottke, Peter Sprague...), While initally committed to the straight ahead sound of the late 50's and 60's cool jazz era domiated by Miles, Coltrane, Monk, Dolphy, Art Blakey, and Herbie Hancock, Davis' music evolution moved the fusion sounds of Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, Metheny, and John Scofield to center stage. More recently, Davis is drawing creative energy from difficult-to-categorize artists such as Bluezeum, Medeski/Martin/Wood and Meshell Ndegeocello. Davis has been colaborating musically with Wolff since 1980. $15.19 LECHOECHOPLEXITAConcerto for Flute, Saksophone, and Captive SoundsCD infoThe music that the listener receives is a sui generis melting pot of different musical influences, where ingredients like jazz, ethno, electronica and finally contemporary music are agreeably put together. This is the painstakingly woven spectacle of sounds starring flute and saxophone Although the flute and sax virtuoso experiment with different aesthetical arenas they are often risky, still the whole story remains homogonous. As far as inimitable sound and general concept is concerned it is probably the only such record in the world. *Leszek Hefi Wiśniowski-alto flute, flute, bansuri, tenor & soprano saksophones, percussion.*Giridhar Udupa - ghatam, kanjira, konnakol (on tracks 2,3,9) http://www.ghatamudupa.com/*Dominik Bieńczycki-violin (on tracks 10, 11)*Anna Malacina- vocal (on tracks 14)Leszek Wiśniowski's first CD that plunges into ethnical-jazz climates is really worth listening. The pieces that sound the most interesting are these which, on one hand correspond with world music and on the other hand, are not burdened with conservative jazz legacy. Technically impressing flute’s parties interweave with tranquil passages that resemble, by its atmosphere, Jan Garbarek’s music. Unfiltered-Live music CDs
$18.99 What the critics said about Skip Wilkins Quintet: Volume I:"Culled from three (days of recording at Lafayette College), the CD documents the interworkings of a cohesive band playing over well-conceived material...the quintet makes music marked by an informality and intimacy gained only through close association and mutual respect. Wilkins has penned some very fine tunes here… The camaraderie and compatibility (is) immediately apparent..."- All About Jazz—New York"For his third disc as a leader, it's easy to suggest Wilkins has come of age as a pianist and composer...easily Wilkins' most impressive music...He wrote and arranged all the tunes. More to the point, his quintet...(has) played these pieces enough to feel comfortable with them, and, even on a first listen, that shows…Wilkins' music has an edge; he's searching for, and more often than not finding, his own voice, which is really what jazz is all about."- Allentown Morning Call"Pianist Skip Wilkins goes from soulful, gut-bucket mode to rich ballads to angular modern jazz on this tasteful set of original tunes...full of pleasant, smoky moments."- Philadelphia InquirerSkip Wilkins Quintet: Volume IMore than ten years ago, pianist and composer Skip Wilkins returned to the east coast in search of new music and new opportunities. Wilkins would find them in Pennsylvania. He had already played with countless jazz luminaries in his native Boston and during eight years living in the West, among them, saxophonists Plas Johnson and John LaPorta, vocalists Mark Murphy and Darmon Meader, trumpeter Conte Candoli, bassist Milt Hinton, and drummers Bob Moses, Joe Hunt, and Peter Erskine. More high-profile performances would follow after his return to the east coast, including with saxophonists David Liebman, Bobby Watson and Stanley Turrentine, trumpeter Clark Terry and drummer T.S. Monk.In January of 2005 Skip gathered some of his favorite musicians ...
