Love Letter CD music
$11.49 All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original master tapes.
The most commercially accessible of Van Morrison's '70s albums, WAVELENGTH is not an artistic compromise, but rather an expansion of Morrison's sound beyond the blues-based, horn-band approach. With the keyboard work of Camel's Peter Bardens and The Band's Garth Hudson, the arrangements take a step toward rock's electronic future without breaking Morrison's well-established ties to it's past. Basically a continuation of the ideas explored on the previous year's aptly titled A PERIOD OF TRANSITION, the album relies largely on groove-heavy '70s-style R&B tunes that overflow with soul, like "Hungry For Your Love" and "Take It Where You Find It." The title tune, which proved to be quite radio-friendly, points the way to new pop directions.
Wavelength essentially picks up where A Period of Transition left off, offering a focused, full-bodied alternative to that record's warmly fuzzy lack of direction. Like that album, it's hardly a major entry in his catalog, but there are signs that Van Morrison is finding his footing for his latter-day voice. Again, the primary appeal of this record is its atmosphere, a charmingly relaxed outing, high on mildly swinging mid-tempo numbers and round, welcoming ballads. Surely, an album of subtle pleasures like this is primarily for the converted, but once you're there, it's hard to resist Wavelength. [2008 saw an ambitious re-release of most of Van Morrison's post- Them catalog. As part of the series, bonus tracks were included on virtually every newly remastered title. This one includes two live versions of album tracks, recorded during the Wavelength tour in 1978. For anyone who didn't see it, it was the last truly magnificent, high energy Morrison tour. The titles include the title track and the rollicking rhythm and blues gospel of "Kingdom Hall," taken form the sacred to the profane by Morrison, laying out some truly risqué ad lib lyrics, whoops and wails th
| | Camera Obscura If Looks Could Kill (2007)
Love Letter music CDs
$7.39 "If Looks Could Kill" is one of the highlights from Camera Obscura's wonderful album Let's Get Out of This Country. The pounding percussion, VU-guitars, and tremendous melody make it a highlight of 2006 as well. The other two songs are fine B-sides: "Hands Up Baby" is a restrained and atmospheric ballad penned by guitarist Kenny McKeeve, whereas "Alaska"'s an organ-heavy rocker with some nice references to trees (when was the last time you heard anyone singing about sycamores, birches, or hawthorns?) and a solid groove. You'll absolutely need this EP to complete your CO collection. ~ Tim Sendra

| | Lady Gaga Just Dance (2008) 4 versions; Remix
Love Letter songs
$2.95 No one can accuse Lady Gaga of not giving the people what they want. "Just Dance," the artist's first single, is an urgent dancefloor filler that draws on Madonna, glam, `80s electro-pop, and deep house, trendy elements that not only push ubiquitous pleasure buttons but carry all the right cultural cachet in the late 2000s. But the up-and-coming dance-pop diva has the skill and flair to pull it off, as anyone who hears (and buys) "Just Dance" will find. Sexy, catchy, and eminently danceable, this single release is hard to resist. More of the same can be heard on THE FAME, Lada Gaga's full-length debut released in 2008.
Audio Mixer: Tim Orton.

| | Play It Cool Cast Recording CD (2006)
Love Letter album
$16.39 We are pleased to announce the release of the CD for our hit Jazz Noir musical, "Play It Cool." It features the Original Los Angeles Cast and musicians doing all 19 songs from the show. As you know, this production has gotten great reviews and has had sold out houses for most of its run. The CD is a limited edition “collectors copy”--we’ve only got 1,000 of them-- so hurry before they're gone! It features the work of award-winning lyricist Mark Winkler (Naked Boys Singing!, Bark! and Too Old for the Chorus) writing with such stellar composers as David Benoit, Dan Siegel and Phillip Swann (Lee Anne Womack, Ray Charles, Clay Aikens). It is reminiscent of "City of Angels","Wild Party" and "Gun Metal Blues."Los Angeles Times Critic’s Choice!"An accomplished, kaleidoscopic songbook. Tart, tuneful and trenchant in unexpected ways. “Play It Cool” generates sizzling heat, and not just for Blue Note devotees.”Nominated for Glaad Award as Best Musical of 2006!Nominated for Ovation Awards- Best Musical, Best Actressand Best Music Director!Nominated for LA Weekly Awards for Best Female Performance-Jessica Sheridan and Best Ensemble!Nominated for LADCC Award for best music director- Louis Durra!Backstage West Critic’s Pick!"A scintillating jazz musical! The amalgam of swinging jazz ditties, comic numbers and torch songs results in a superb score, brought to shimmering life courtesy of music director-arranger Louis Durra and musicians Big Al Gruskoff and Adam Alesi…..a first rate cast of actor-singers."LA Weekly, Go!"We get solid jazz from five fine actor-singers who deliver lyricist Mark Winkler’s music in a delightful evening."Variety"Impressive tuner…rich in noir-esque ambience. Jessica Sheridan exhibits impressive vocal chops (“In My Drag,””Jazz is a Special Taste”). Katie Campbell’s clear-toned, pitch-perfect outings on “Whatever It Takes” and “Another Night” is evocative of such Jazz legends as Anita O’Day and June Christy.”Top Ten Cast Recording of 2006! "Once again, one lyricist collaborating various composers comes up with a winner. Mark Winkler's Play It Cool is a musical that takes film noir as its ambience. It's set in Hollywood, and had a run in Los Angeles recently. I very much enjoyed the CD's group of well-written, well-sung songs celebrating jazz music and indicating a story. But it wasn't until I saw a staged reading of the show that I fully appreciated it. (The reading starred the likely New York lead, Lea DeLaria, who has a solo album by the same name, but it's unrelated.) The show is about gays and lesbians in the repressive 1950s where expressions of same-sex affection had to be guarded. The L.A. cast is impressive, and the wail of a saxophone and the snap of a finger instantly bring you into the musical's world, and then the smoky, silky, moody atmosphere takes over. It may have "cool" in the title, and appropriately so, but some of the music is hot and sizzling." Rob LesterTalking Broadway.com
