With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. With their 2nd release launched and their 7th year as a band, Circus Mind has clearly narrowed their focus to funky retro rock grooves. Slimming the band to a 4 piece while saving their horns for a few needed tunes, the band has honed their musicality in their sound and the songwriting to create an explosive project. The new release entitled 'Silver Flower' puts a modern take on mid-late 70's influences such as Traffic, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Mott the Hoople plus N'awlin Vibes such as Dr.John, The Meters and The Neville Brothers. Unlike their first CD which welcomed many special guests such as members of the Neville Brothers, Meters, Soulive and Deep Banana Blackout to name a few CM keeps this project in house for what becomes a much clearer picture of 'Who is Circus Mind?' The band met in the late 90's when lead singer Mark Rechler opened headshop/pet store. "It seemed like a brilliant idea at the time" Rechler said. I then hired guitarist Dave Berg to help clean the hampster cages andcreate habitrails out of bong parts, and as it turned out he was an expert in all things heady. Drummer George Hooks shortly joined as shop manager making sure the parakeets were getting along with the Ferrets and keeping them all away from the glass bowls. Chris Croby the bass player was a regular customer of course who became closr with the crew. Well the shop was just a "head" of its time of course and things just went south.
