Closed Captioned; Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Spanish Subtitles; French Subtitles; Special Edition A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, based on the prescient novel by Anthony Burgess, is director Stanley Kubrick's masterful satire on crime and punishment in an ultraviolent future. From its opening shot of Malcolm McDowell staring with evil intent directly into the camera (which pulls back to reveal him drinking a glass of milk), Stanley Kubrick's brilliant A CLOCKWORK ORANGE announces itself as a completely new kind of viewing experience. The film, set in an unidentified future, overwhelms the senses with its almost comic depictions of rape and violence set to an upbeat classical and pop music score. Kubrick based his chilling masterpiece on Anthony Burgess's culture-shaking novel about a young man growing into adulthood, but unable to shake his huge problem with authority figures. The first part of the film shows Alex (a career-defining performance by McDowell) and his "droogs" (his cohorts) indulging in what they refer to as "a little bit of the old ultraviolence." After establishing Alex and co. as unremitting psychopaths, Kubrick's movie changes tact, and shows Alex getting caught and forced to undergo controversial treatment that will make it impossible for him to commit violent acts, leading to a fascinating ending to the film.
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE purposely confuses crime and punishment, cause and effect, hero and villain, irony and satire, and many other concepts, creating a truly unique work of art in the process. Its magnificent, colorful, futuristic set designs and utter determination to shock, frighten, and thoroughly entertain left audiences reeling in the '70s. Kubrick even withdrew the film from distribution in the UK, after reading newspaper reports of people dressing up as Alex and his Droogs and meting out their own brand of ultraviolence (it was subsequently rereleased after his death). One thing is for sure: No one who has seen it has ever been able to hear "Singin' in the Rain" or Beethoven again in quite the same way. Theatrical release: February 9, 1972
The sculptures in the Korova Milkbar were based on the work of sculptor Allen Jones.
The blunt object the cat woman uses to attack Alex is a bust of Ludwig Van Beethoven, Alex's favorite composer and whose 9th Symphony accidentally becomes part of Alex's conditioning.
One of only two movies rated X on its original release (the other being Midnight Cowboy (1969)) to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Stanley Kubrick asked Pink Floyd if he could use their "Atom Heart Mother Suite" in the soundtrack. However, because Kubrick wanted unlimited license to determine what portions or edits of the song he used, the band turned him down. Clockwork Orange Quotes/Excerpts: "There was me, that is Alex, and my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie and Dim. And we sat in the Korova Milkbar, trying to make up our razudoks what to do with the evening."--Alex (Malcolm McDowell), the "humble narrator" Clockwork Orange Reviews: "...A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is still potent and though-provoking..."
-- Steve Emmons, Los Angeles Times "...CLOCKWORK is a movie about movies -- and sex and power and music and Sovietism -- that works as a head trip by driving for the gut. Consider it Kubrick's most surrealistic feat..."
-- Entertainment Weekly Staff, Entertainment Weekly "...It still shocks....Provocative..."-- Nick Clark, Total Film "...[The film] remains every bit as tantalising as it ever was..."
-- Dan Leigh, Sight and Sound "[Featuring] the multiple charms of McDowell's performance."

Clockwork Orange Movie Review The best Clockwork ever This new digital transfer is just amazing. While it is only 1.66:1 and non-anamorphic, the colors and textures are beautiful. The DVD's 5.1 surround sound is evenly balanced and even though the original soundtrack is absent, I was quite happy with this audio. The additional CD soundtrack is a nice bonus. This is a must for Kubrick fans. Be warned that I almost needed a crowbar to get the discs out... no push-case here. Submitted by a reviewer (Seattle, WA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Truly Great This is definitely one of the most controversial films ever made. Stanley Kubrick truly pushed the edges of cinema and made one of the greatest pictures ever in a Clockwork Orange. When it was first released it received an X rating due to its graphic nature. Stanley Kubrick even withdrew the film from Britain and it was re-released in 2000, a year after his death. Malcolm McDowell stars as an evil gang member who violently kills, rapes and tortures his victims. The term he uses for these crimes would be “ultra violent”. Everything about this film is uniquely provocative and interesting. It is one of the most unusual films I’ve ever watched. The type of slang talk used by the gang members really added to the disturbing visuals of the film. This film was very stylishly done in terms of the violent scenes. Malcolm and his droogs continue to cause havoc until his droogs eventually turn on him and turn him over to the authorities. The government believes that there is some kind of questionable treatment that can cure a criminal and turn him into a normal human being. The treatment worked and Malcolm was free. However, his former gang members and homeless people that he had tortured in the past get their revenge, aswell as his parents kicking him out of home. Later on in the film, he tries to commit suicide but it doesn’t work and the government is blamed for his suicidal tactics. It seemed by the end of the film he went back to his criminal instincts. This movie is often regarded as a masterpiece and one of Stanley Kubricks greatest films. Its visuals, scores, plot and unique story-telling makes this film really special. This film deals with violence in society, gangs, sex, guilt, politics and it’s definitely not a film for the light hearted and shouldn’t be watched by people who get offended easily. It is a very over the top film and some of the scenes from a Clockwork Orange are still regarded as some of the most chilling and unbelievable scenes ever depicted on film. I advice this film for anybody who appreciates the quality of cinema and anyone who appreciates the remarkable Stanley Kubrick. Submitted by Joey 34 (L.A California) Was This Review Helpful? Disturbing but great movie! Great cinematography, storyline is carried out well. Starts off being a disturbing movie set in a futuristic time, where a character named Alex DeLarge played Malcolm McDowell plays an imperious and ruthless punk who joins forces with fellow gang members Georgie and Dim, on nights when Alex gets away from home he gets together with them he goes on to commmit violent acts of thuggery, the more violent the better, brutality on bums, members of other gangs, people unlucky enough to meet their path and rape. the scenes where this violent acts have great buildup before they happen, not a group of folks you want to run into in a dark alley. The story unfolds as his fellow gangmembers who are growing tired of his abusive and imperious ways turn on him, leaving him to turn on him after a botched robbery and murder, leave him to face the authorities and it is from here he faces prison, a questionable treatment to cure him of his criminal instincts upon which the world is unleashed on him once he is set free. If you like well written creepy movies like Oliver Stones Talk Radio, you will have fun keeping up this one! Submitted by jdn82 (Houston, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? $31.05 Demonstrating the same understanding of the complexities of human relationships that characterized his 2006 film, THE UPSIDE OF ANGER, and his short-lived HBO series, THE MIND OF THE MARRIED MAN, writer/director Mike Binder once again taps into the same fertile ground in this story of one man's difficulty reconnecting with the world after experiencing a great tragedy. In another role showcasing his relatively untapped talent for dramatic roles, Adam Sandler is Charlie Fineman, a New York dentist whose post-traumatic stress caused by the loss of his wife and children on 9/11 sees him regressing to a sort of second childhood dominated by videogames, record collecting, and riding his motor scooter around the city. A chance run-in with his former college roommate, fellow dentist, and family man Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle) spurs Charlie's first attempts at remembering his past. ...

$22.75 In this riveting look at military life during the Vietnam conflict, Stanley Kubrick, who made the powerful antiwar classics PATHS OF GLORY (WWI) and DR. STRANGELOVE (the Cold War), once again explores the behavior of men in battle. FULL METAL JACKET (1987), adapted from Gustav Hasford's novel THE SHORT TIMERS, is broken down into two very different parts. The first half of the film focuses on the training of a squad of Marine grunts on Parris Island, and more specifically on the troubled relationship between the brutal drill sergeant (a frightening Lee Ermey) and an oafish misfit (a brilliant Vincent D'Onofrio) who just happens to be a sharpshooter. The second half takes the grunts to Hue City, where the climactic battle of the 1968 Tet Offensive--and the turning point of the Vietnam ...

$31.05 With only one film under his belt and the endorsement of Quentin Tarantino, Eli Roth became a virtual horror brand with HOSTEL (2005), a yarn about a group of thrill-seeking American college dudes backpacking through Europe, only to be seduced into a Slovakian money-for-torture ring where they become the prey. The sequel begins right where that film left off, filling us in on the whereabouts of lone survivor Paxton (Jay Hernandez)---but before long, we see that gender roles are reversed and we are traveling with sensible Beth (Lauren German), hedonistic Whitney (Bijou Phillips), and virginal Lorna (Heather Matarazzo). After tussling with a gaggle of shifty men on a train, they meet Axelle (Vera Jordanova), a gorgeous woman who persuades them to follow her to a rejuvenating ...
