There are few musicians whose music has indisputably advanced humanity. Reggae figurehead Bob Marley--a songwriter, poet, activist, and visionary--is one of them. The idea that a single-disc collection could represent the depth, breadth, and power of Marley's achievement is far-fetched, but LEGEND makes an excellent attempt. Every single one of its tracks is outstanding, and the artist's different faces--revolutionary ("Get Up Stand Up"), romantic ("Is This Love"), devout Rastafarian ("Buffalo Soldier"), and prophet ("One Love/People Get Ready") are equally represented.
In addition to his moving message of love and unity, Marley is a master songwriter, as the timelessness of songs like "Stir It Up," "I Shot the Sheriff," and ...

$15.39 CELTIC WOMAN is the brainchild of David Downes, a composer/conductor who was heavily involved with the American production of RIVERDANCE. Not surprisingly, all of the lights, drama, and musical bombast of that esteemed show are present on this production as well. Instead of showcasing legions of dancers, however, CELTIC WOMAN puts the emphasis on the rich heritage of traditional and contemporary Irish ...

| | Quintron Are You Ready For An Organ Solo? CD (2003)
Choros & Chorinhos songs
$11.29 Quintron returns with more subversive, more than slightly sleazy fun on Are You Ready for an Organ Solo?, one of three albums he released in 2003. By now, his modus operandi -- howled baritone vocals, insistently dumb beats, cheerleader-style backing vocals courtesy of Miss Pussycat, and of course, organs and analog synths galore -- is well-known, but that doesn't make it any less entertaining. Tracks like "Place Unknown," "The Beach," and "Teenage Antoinette" are electro-garage rave-ups that should be the life of any happening party, while "Miniature Breakdown" is a dancefloor stormer that is about as straightforward as Quintron gets (which is to say, not very). However, any worries about Quintron making his sound more conventional should be put to rest by oddities like "Mud Bugs," the theme to a horror film of the same name. This makes perfect sense, considering the track's "Frankenstein"-like organ stabs and screamed vocals. Likewise, the rambling "I'm Not Busy" is funny, funky, freaky free association that is catchier than it has any right to be. "Cave Formation" is without a doubt the strangest song ...

$18.99 Xen = strange, foreign, differentDen = a comfortable, secluded roomThe XenDen Suite is my dedication to celebrating the life of one of my closest friends, the late Alan Corbet (1964 – 2008), a close friend and driving force of the West Australian Jazz scene. Alan created a label, XenDen Music, specifically designed for original and independent musicians. But unfortunately due to Alan’s untimely passing, the label’s full potential never came to fruition. This record is my tribute to an amazing man with incredible vision. -Troy RobertsThis CD needs to be listened to in its entirety to fully appreciate what a major work it really is. Initially it’s like looking at a grand cathedral from the outside only to discover its many disguised and framed treasures in its numerous nooks and crannies. Leading us into this work is a melancholic warm and tender opus steeped in solace; however, there is no sense of self indulgence here folks! Each note carries with it the character and charm of Alan and is delivered through the sensitivity and creative beauty of his jazz brother, Troy Roberts. The excellence of performance and the subtle yet, commanding ...
