| | Norah Jones Fall CD (2009)
Boys Night CD music
$15.05 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly ...
| | Tom Petty Live Anthology CDs (2009)
Boys Night music CDs
$19.98 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live Anthology finally provides. Like its closest cousin, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975-1985, Live Anthology almost overcompensates for the long wait by offering almost too much music, cherrypicking highlights from 1978 to 2007. In its simplest incarnation, Live Anthology is a super-affordable, four-disc box set running 48 tracks, which is eight cuts longer than ...
| | John Mayer Battle Studies CD (2009)
Boys Night songs
$12.95 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend of synths and Strats, ...
| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Boys Night album
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book ...

| | Hanna Richardson Something To Remember You By CD (2001)
Boys Night music CDs
$16.45 Newcomer vocalist Hanna Richardson teams up with veteran bassist Phil Flanigan and his sextet made up of the top swing players currently on the scene to pay tribute to the great singer Maxine Sullivan. Richardson's vocal style resembles Sullivan's in its straightforward, melodic, and always swinging approach. Flanigan makes particular use of Richardson's natural rhythmic feel as he leads a first-rate ensemble on an entertaining variety of tunes, most of which were associated with Sullivan. This sextet is a Who's Who of the finest current swing musicians. Flanigan, Flory, and Peplowski all toured with Benny Goodman. Ingham, Flanigan and Flory all toured and recorded with Maxine Sullivan. Flanigan and Flory were founding members of tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton's quintet. Vache is a veteran of the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, and has made many appearances on NPR. Little played on the well known Ellington recording "And His Mother Called Him Bill," featuring music of Billy Strayhorn, and is a New York studio veteran. Richardson was high school friends with Flanigan and Flory, and watched with ...

| | Flipside Along For The Ride CD (2006)
Boys Night CD music
$11.39 They're in a "B-side" State of MindBy Cheryl KainThe Cape Codder, Friday, December 23, 2005"B-side" often refers to the less-commercial, more interesting music that appeals to musicians. Keeping that in mind, the singer / songwriter duo of Melissa Roberts Weidman and Chris LoCascio released their CD "Flipside: Along for the Ride" of all original music this week. The term "Flipside" is based on the artists' love of album B-sides. Flipside's main interest is to play music that interests them, which will hopefully inspire their audiences. While both hold down day jobs, they consider themselves musicians first. Weidman, the bass player and lead vocalist, is known around Chatham for her work with the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen's Association, and is now employed as Communications Manager for Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod. She studies bass with master bassist Victor Wooten of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Pianist LoCascio teaches piano in Falmouth and is also a painting contractor. The duo speak effusively about finding each other, because as many musicians know, it is kismet to be able to "click" musically as well as personally. This doesn't happen often, and both Weidman and LoCascio feel blessed to have found each other, as they share musical influences of Bob Dylan, The Band, Muddy Waters and others. As former members of favorite Cape band Joe Sutton's Safe Sextet, they then branched off to create some music on their own. According to LoCascio, Weidman's prolific lyric writing had her leaving stacks of lyric ideas on LoCascio's piano. He then comes up with the music at the piano. Both Weidman and LoCascio had musical parents - LoCascio's father is a guitar player and whenever he gets the chance, ...
