Dave Mustaine, who broke down so candidly in Metallica's SOME KIND OF MONSTER documentary, has nothing to be ashamed of. Warchest songs Since his unceremonious boot from Metallica, he's been responsible for some of the most thrilling, adventurous metal in existence with his project Megadeth. With their first release, 1985's KILLING IS MY BUSINESS AND BUSINESS IS GOOD, Megadeth combined thrash metal heaviness with jazz-inspired improvisation to express Mustaine's singular take on heavy music, and they never looked back. System Has Failed CD (2004) Top Seller
Warchest buy CD music For 2004's THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED, vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine reunites Megadeth -- original guitarist Chris Poland along with new members bassist Jimmie Lee Sloas and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta -- for the band's first new studio album in three years. Frontman/songwriter Mustaine has a lot on his mind, as he ruminates on many of the political and social ills troubling the world, and his words are delivered over grooves and riffs reminiscent of mid-period Megadeth (circa COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION). The overall sound is fresh and energetic, and Mustaine conjures memorable licks, particularly when he trades blazing solos with Poland, as on "Die Dead Enough" and the fierce old-school thrash of "Back in the Day." Mustaine also spices SYSTEM with a number of extra sonic flourishes -- including strings, banjo and keyboards -- making it an unusually intriguing metal record.
Personnel: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar); Lance Dean, Robert Venable, Scott Harrison, Ralph Patlan (vocals); Justis Mustaine (spoken vocals); Chris Poland (guitar); Jonathan Yudkin (banjo, strings); Tim Akers, Charles Judge (keyboards); Jimmie Lee Sloas (bass guitar); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); Eric Darken (percussion); Michael Davis (sound effects); Chris Rodriguez (background vocals).

Rust in Peace CD (1990) Top Seller
Warchest songs After the success of PEACE SELLSāBUT WHO'S BUYING? in 1986 and SO FAR, SO GOOD, SO WHAT! in 1988, Megadeth was fast becoming one of thrash metal's leading outfits. However, the band's hard work was nearly derailed because of the continuous dismissals of band members and chronic substance abuse. Founding members Dave Mustaine (guitar/vocals) and Dave Ellefson (bass) changed their ways before work on their fourth album began, hiring drummer Nick Menza and ex-Cacophony guitarist Marty Friedman. When Megadeth re-emerged with RUST IN PEACE in 1990, metalheads were happy to hear that the changes hadn't dulled their attack in the slightest.
"Holy WarsāThe Punishment Due" is an absolutely crushing opener that shows off the technical expertise of the musicians, while "Hangar 18" covers the familiar ground of alien visitation and government conspiracy. Both videos were put in heavy rotation on MTV's Headbanger's Ball program, which helped land the band a spot on the successful heavy 'Clash of the Titans' tour with Anthrax, Slayer, and Alice In Chains. Other highlights include the heavy hitters "Five Magics," "Lucretia," and "Rust in PeaceāPolaris."

Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? CD (1986)
Warchest album for sale Guitarist Dave Mustaine was an original member of thrash-pioneers Metallica. But he was booted from the band during the recording of that band's debut album, KILL 'EM ALL. Instead of moping around, Mustaine returned to California and immediately formed another group--Megadeth. He promised his fans that the new outfit would be faster and more lethal than his former band, and Megadeth's 1985 debut, KILLING IS MY BUSINESS, AND BUSINESS IS GOOD, made good on this threat. Megadeth and Metallica duked it out in the music press, but both acts thrived. In 1986, each released its finest record, Metallica's MASTER OF PUPPETS and Megadeth's PEACE SELLS...BUT WHO'S BUYING?
While Metallica initially shunned MTV, Megadeth used the video format to its advantage--becoming the first thrash band to do so. Both "Wake Up Dead" and the anthemic title track received constant play on MTV's HEAVY METAL HOUR; the latter song's brief bass intro was even used as the theme to MTV news in the early-'90s. Tracks such as "The Conjuring," "Devil's Island," "Good Mourning/Black Friday," and a cover of Jeff Beck's "I Ain't Superstitious" proved to be just as brutal. PEACE SELLS is an influential, all-time heavy metal classic.

United Abominations CD (2007)
Warchest CD music Issued in May 2007 after months of delays, UNITED ABOMINATIONS not only marks Megadeth's first album for the venerable Roadrunner label, it features singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine backed by an entirely new ensemble. In fact, the record's artwork even boasts a revamped depiction of Vic Rattlehead, the band's mascot. Clearly, the changes have reinvigorated Mustaine, who is at his snarling best on these fierce tracks, which, like many classic Megadeth tunes, take on issues of politics ("Washington Is Next!"), armed conflict ("Gears of War"), and blind obedience ("Sleepwalker").
Given Mustaine's strong personality and knack for selecting top-notch musicians, the radical personnel shift has no discernable negative effects on the group, with James Lomenzo (bass) and brothers Glen and Shawn Drover (guitar and drums, respectively) contributing to a more streamlined approach that eschews excessive soloing. While Megadeth's aggressive thrash aesthetic is amply showcased on the wire-tight "Sleepwalker," Mustaine also makes room for subtleties, as on a reworking of the melancholy "A Tout Le Monde" (originally on 1994's YOUTHANASIA), which includes guest vocals by Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia. Arguably Megadeth's finest and most assured outing since '92's COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION, UNITED ABOMINATIONS is the sound of metal royalty refusing to give up its throne.
Megadeth: Dave Mustaine, Glen Drover (acoustic guitar); James LoMenzo, Shawn Drover (background vocals).
Additional personnel: Cristina Scabbia (vocals); Axel Mackenrot (keyboards); Chris Rodriguez (background vocals).

That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires CDs (2007)
Warchest songs In the best scene of Metallica's overblown Some Kind of Monster documentary, Dave Mustaine admits to Lars Ulrich that he feels like he's always coming in second place to his former band. But in reality, Mustaine has for many years fronted one of metal's most popular and enduring bands, Megadeth, who still release strong-selling albums and are able to headline large venues. Case in point, their live release, That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires. Originally issued as a DVD, this audio portion chronicles a performance from 2005 at Obras Stadium in Buenos Aires, before 25,000 rabid fans. As evidenced by several previous live rock/metal DVDs by other artists (especially Rush's Rush in Rio), fans way down south are an exuberant bunch -- not only singing along to the lyrics, but managing to sing along to the riffs, as heard here on such standouts as the long-lost "Set the World Afire," "Wake Up Dead," and "Hangar 18." But they really go bonkers during the closing trio of the band's best-known tracks -- "Symphony of Destruction," "Peace Sells," and "Holy Wars." Megadeth have long been considered one of the most precise and tight thrash bands, and That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires offers further hard proof to this claim. ~ Greg Prato
