COLORS, the 2007 follow-up to Between the Buried and Me's all-covers album, THE ANATOMY OF, finds the North Carolinian metalcore act in typically ambitious, uncompromising territory. Working in the vein of more adventurous acts such as Mr. Bungle, the band turns many of its songs into dynamic mini-suites, as evinced on "Sun of Nothing," which veers from scathing, guitar-driven chaos to dreamy, almost-folk-like passages.Alternative Press (p.164) - 4.5 stars out of 5 -- "Not only will metal/hardcore fans remember COLORS, they might still be struggling decades down the line to fully comprehend its brilliance." Between The Buried And Me Colors Songs Colors Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews A terrific album by a highly revered prog-metal group Wow when i heard this album i knew i just had to get it.. the originality is just superb in songs like White Walls and Prequel to Sequel...
the musicianship displayed here have allowed prog-metal to flourish in a sense that has motivated other aspiring bands within this subgenre..
thanks to bands like between the buried and me, fans of metal will be thankfully seeing more music like this in the near future.. whether it is of the same calibre remains unknown.. Submitted by jamessegelov (sydney, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 2 of 2 found this helpful.
Preaching To The Choir! After listening to Alaska for the 500th time I thought that there was no way BTBAM could produce another album to equal this masterpiece....boy was I wrong. From start to finish this cd is mind-numbingly brilliant! At their worst you would have to at least admit that this group of guys love music in the true sense of the phrase. At their best this is art in one of its' purest forms. In a day and age when so many bands and musicians subject us to uninspired garbage in a sickening attempt to sell more records Between The Buried & Me gives me hope that future generations of music lovers will be left with some example of real talent from this era.
Paul and Tommy have created something special and I only wish that more people could behold the splendor that is Colors. Alas the average person wears a tight cover on their third eye and will never know the wonders of this and other great BTBAM works. Submitted by Andrew (Kent, OH) Was This Review Helpful? i'm sorry but this is not a five star album. compared to silent circus, which i think is arguably one of the best metal albums of all all time, and alaska, colors fails in comparison. i like a bit of a raw sound, like your actually hearing a band playing. and my biggest issue w/ this record is that is just sounds too clean. as if it were over produced. musically, its great, but just sounds too perfect, and on some of the tracks don't quite know where the songs are going. one of the things i always admired about this band was their ability to go off on a tangent, so your like "what is this?" then bring it back. i think they fell into the trap of relying too heavily on digital production. i would however like the hear the live album, i'm still a fan of the band, just wasn't happy w/ this album. this is only my opinion, take it for what its worth. way more than 5 stars well i'll start by saying there are no words for this cd. every thing is perfectly placed, exactly where you want to hear it, everything is perfectly excuted, perfectly said, perfectly played, perfectly structured, and it was the BEST 10 bucks i've ever spent, and if it was $2000 i would still buy it. listening to this masterpiece of brainwork from these five guys is so intimidating, being a musician. the work on this cd is hands down, HANDS DOWN the most incredible musical talent i have ever heard. i can say that, being a metalhead who likes experimental just as much, but it should be just as mindblowing to anyone else because it's simply astonishing. best cd ever Submitted by colors is the most amazing thing (my cd player) Was This Review Helpful? Epic... At first I didn't like the album, then I sat down and listened to it again. It's great, really, really good. A bit werid at times but hey it's BTBAM, their always a bit werid. My favorite track..."Sun Of Nothing" and "Ants Of The Sky". Buy the album, it's worth every penny. Submitted by hardcorefrokid (Corona) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
