| | Every Mother's Dream Big Blend CD Every Mother's Dream Discography of CDs
Big Blend indeed! The new release from Asheville’s Every Mother’s Dream boasts a variety seldom found in a folk rock release. Anyone who listens to this disc is sure to find something they can enjoy. “She Rides” kicks off the recording with a funk edge while the following track, “Steer”, takes more of a toe tapping country twist. As you make your way through the big blend of tunes, you’ll hear some jazz, swing, folk and even a hint of electronica in the concluding song “Observation Deck”. “Into the Sun”, a positive and empowering ode to broken women, and “Don’t Tell Me No” offer a refreshing stripped down sound amidst a full band sound. You can expect a love song or two, yes, but the themes in Big Blend range from daydreams to particle physics At least two things are consistent throughout this record – stirring vocal harmonies and well crafted songwriting. This duo, once just Jay Kaiser and Mandy Carter, has made some impressive choices in the musical company they keep. Jay brilliantly plays many of the instruments on Big Blend as its producer. However, it would not be the same shining success without drummer, Jeff Dewhirst and saxophone player, Aimee Sullivan. Jeff’s tasteful kit sound drives most tunes on the record, and Aimee lays down some spectacular solos on “She Rides” and “Attitude”. BAND BIO:Jay Kaiser and Mandy Carter have been making music as a pair since 2001. Jay, who was trained in classical guitar at the University of Illinois, moved to Asheville, NC to join a local rock band. Mandy was fresh on the Asheville singer songwriter scene, testing her new found talent in local showcases. Noticing the matching stickers on one another’s guitar cases, the two found musical common ground. It didn’t take long for Jay and Mandy to form a duo and begin performing their own brand of modern folk music around the southeast, blending Jay’s fave’s—60’s rock and 50’s jazz—and Mandy’s influence from more recent female folksters. Audiences rave about the pair’s vocal harmonies, original sound, and dazzling acoustic guitar work ala Jay. In 2005, the band grew to include as many as five members (Jeff Dewhirst/drums, Joe Bruno/bass, Aimee Sullivan/sax) on any given night. Now, the new incarnation of Jay and Mandy, Every Mother’s Dream, is poised for success. Whether as a duo or a full band, Every Mother’s Dream serves up a folk show filled with energy and variety. Although they are sure to please any folk fan, there is no genre label that truly fits EMD. Their writing is influenced by folk, funk, country, pop, and jazz musicians. The title of their latest recording describes them best...Big Blend. Every Mother's Dream Big Blend Songs | 1. | She Rides |

Big Blend album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, ...

Produced & Mixed by Martin BlasickRyan Hemmingsinger, songwriter, guitarist As a teenager, Ryan began writing and playing songs around coffee houses in Los Angeles county. In the beginning, he was a twisted teenage folk singer heavily influenced by Syd Barrett, the Stooges, and the Beatles. After many acoustic sets disrupted by coffee house conversations, he decided to form a power trio and put a fuzz box to the warm songs he wrote. While attending Citrus College in Glendora, California, Ryan answered ...

| | Kristi Martel Brave Enough CD (2002)
Big Blend CD music
$11.39 This is an impressive initial release that many seasoned performers would be ecstatic to present to the public. It reveals a portion of what she is capable of now and at the same time reveals hints of what is to come. It is both a complete work and the beginning of a career that knows no limits. It displays traces of such eclectic interests as Ani DiFranco and Joni Mitchell, and the power of voice and the phrasing brings to mind the spells that Billie Holiday used to weave. Her voice is her main instrument and it can be at times subtle and soft or on other occasions a powerful torrent that sweeps you along with it. Her delivery is ever changing and this helps to make this a very interesting and impressive disc. The lyrics and songs are intelligent without being obscure and quirky. Yet she is unafraid of disclosing her quirks in an unabashed and delightful way. She wrote all the words and music on this disc as well as accompanying herself on piano and vocals. ~ Bob Gottlieb
Review: Kristi Martel - Brave Enough (Sealed Lip Records) \"There\'s this thing Kristi Martel does with her voice. The first time I played \'Brave Enough,\' it shut me up and made me say, \'Damn!\' That\'s just her voice. As a pianist and songwriter, Martel does not shy from her feminism. She seems to shy from nothing. Her voice sometimes evokes Bjork\'s but it is more soulful, more post-punk Laura Nyro. She looks head-on at issues like feminine body image and self-esteem, sex, dying, the power of community, and the challenges and favor of intimacy. But as the liner notes wisely recommend, \'play this thing loud.\' \'Brave Enough\' is part groove diary, part social exegesis, and a whole lot of fun.\" -- Cesca Waterfield, Expository MagazineWhen Kristi Martel was three she sang to salt and pepper shakers atop tables in restaurants. Her family encouraged her to do this.Everyone in the restaurant would clap.So she kept singing and making up harmonies and began piano lessons with a strong desire to be a famous musician.Today, Kristi Martel\'s sweet presence, stunning vocals, intricate piano rhythms, and fearless songwriting endear audiences nationwide.\"...love emanates from every note.\" - Vienna Teng\"...a fine musician...Incomparable!\" - Utah PhillipsFeatured on MTV/LOGO, NPR, WERS, and in Curve Magazine, and voted Rhode Island\'s Best Female ...
| | Jake La Botz Graveyard Jones CD (2006)
Big Blend music CDs
$14.79 "Jake La Botz is a creator of dark poetry and haunting song, the kind of music that gets in your bones and rides you for days, a sound and vision only those who've been to the bottom and clawed their way back up can generate. His midnight gifts evoke Hank Williams and Skip James as much as Tom Waits and Dylan. Not everybody will get this music - because not everybody is ready for the truth."Jerry Stahl (Author of Permanent Midnight)"La Botz avoids the mainstream like a Dracula avoids the dawn..." -Macon Telegraph"Blues man Jake La Botz came up the right-proper, fucking hard way: a teen renegade on the streets of Chicago, dabbling in a mixture of antisocial activities (from car theft to jabbing up his own rudimentary tattoos) and exploring the rich, deep blues tradition as a street singer ... and beside Delta-blues originator “Honeyboy” Edwards. That lovely, lurid background forged a musical power that, as heard on his current CD, Graveyard Jones, demonstrates not only an innate mastery of the blues, but also displays what he calls a “condensed rock & roll mythology.”" -L.A. Weekly"“Graveyard Jones” is one of the year’s most original releases — midnight blues as philosophical myth..." -Pasadena Weekly"La Botz is skilled at crafting talking-blues numbers that are pure poetry. His storytelling roots lie deep in the Delta and Piedmont, and his material is at once timeless and totally fresh." -Chicago Sun Times"The songs pierce and scrape at the listener’s skin like the needle of a tattoo gun, his harsh, grainy rasp—not unlike Tom Waits’—spewing forth blunt, morbid narratives about threadbare lives and the nearness of the grave." -Nashville Scene"Dont miss alert: Blues veteran Jake La Botz, an L.A. denizen via Chicago and a musical descendant of Son House, Tom Waits, Skip James, and Honeyboy Edwards, returns with 'Graveyard Jones' (Charnel Ground 108). La Botz...is one of today's darkest and most original writers. 'Jones', ...
