Old School Gothic-Rock is back!A secret recommendation within the Gothic underground since a long time: The music by the band Reptyle from Bielefeld / Germany. Their complex and catching compositions have been presented to an audience of connoisseurs through numerous live performances, laying the foundation for a large fan community that feverishly awaited Reptyle’s debut CD "A High And Lonely Place" that finally came out in 2004.Feeling, song writing and structure seek their orientation in true old school Gothic-Rock of the late 80s, yet being far beyond simple copies of what’s already been done. Through many independent elements this work walks in line with many masterpieces of that time. Their rich and dense arrangements or the use of synthesizers, coupled with powerful vocals and uncompromising guitar work, are by no means pushed close to an approach of mainstream music. All elements are perfect in synchronization and stylistic use.In our modern days some "trend oriented" people think Gothic-Rock to be yesterday’s news, reduced to some commercial outgrowth of the 80s. However, all corrosions of those years can’t make one forget that Gothic-Rock, unlike any other genre, has united strength, glamour and despair of 30 years of Rock’n’Roll. From The Doors over Joy Division, Nick Cave and Fields Of The Nephilim up to Tiamat or Paradise Lost – Gothic-Rock is a tradition that bestowed a dimension of depth and reality on to cheap entertainment, representing immortality beyond sales numbers."A High And Lonely Place" is meant to be a statement; a tribute - less to past "heroes", but rather to those who kept and still keep the flame of Gothic-Rock alive.

At this stage of her career Mariah Carey does not need to prove herself, but her voice is so powerful that with each new recording she, once again, reminds you: "Listen to what I can do." Vocal gymnastics and Christmas songs are not often thought of as a compatible combination, but on MERRY CHRISTMAS Mariah jumps, climbs, crawls, twirls and dashes her way through both traditional fare and original Christmas songs. She shifts through styles, offering fans from all musical camps a gift of their own. Her "Silent Night" shows off a ...

February
Joshua Schramm February CD  (2005)

High & Lonely Place songs
CD $15.19
REVIEWS OF “FEBRUARY”Smother.netBy J-Sin The album was mostly written in the cold winter month of February, hence the title. Joshua Schramm is a folk rocker whose voice is commanding with a genuine twist. A multi-instrumentalist, Joshua recorded himself playing guitar, banjo, percussion, and keyboards. The vocal arrangements that he manages throughout the album are impeccable. He just moved to Seattle and I hope our readers from the Pacific Northwest make him feel at home because his music sure offers a nice reprieve from the cold of stagnant folk-pop music. Excellent and highly recommended!http://www.smother.net/reviews/modernrock.php3?ID=1343 Sacramento News and ReviewBy Becca Costello Presumably Joshua Schramm titled his album February because that was the month in which he composed the majority of its songs--Schramm wrote and recorded nine of these tunes during this year’s February Album Writing Month. Speed-writing gimmicks aside, though, the music’s sedate, snowed-in feel embraces the title like a mitten hugs a cold, chapped hand. With quiet acoustic orchestration and thoughtful lyrics, February inspires the feeling one gets when staring at a gray late-winter sky and wondering why spring doesn’t just get here already. The subtle nature of these tracks lends itself to pensiveness, without ever turning morose. Schramm left Sacramento for Seattle this year, where he’s likely to find more of the sort of weather that complements his work. http://www.newsreview.com/issues/sacto/2005-12-01/mixmusic2.asp EarCandyMag.com by J.R. OliverMellow is as mellow does whatever the hell that means. Don’t ask. Anyway, Joshua Schramm is mellow but not boring by any means. An acoustic singer /songwriter in much the same vein as someone like Dave Matthews. Actually, he sounds like Elvis Costello and Dave Matthews stitched together in Tom Petty’s laboratory / studio. A folk rocker, and folk rockers are few and far between these days, with a great sense of how to command your attention without clubbing you over the head with loud beats or profane lyrics. He sort of sneaks up on you like a Pink Floyd song or middle age or your girlfriends cat. The next thing you know you’re caught up in the middle of it all. http://www.earcandymag.com/reviews41.htmMobdog.comby Sherri Prunier ...quot; Mobdog Music“...What redeems the work most is Schramm’s vocal tone and range. In the track “Nothing from the Old House,” Josh starts to reveal a strength of timbre and a comforting deeper pitch to his voice evident again in a some later tracks (“Slowly Unwind” and ...
Between The Stars & Oblivion
Michael Petruska Between The Stars & Oblivion CD  (2004)

High & Lonely Place album
CD $10.15
A few words from Michael about his first album release:"I am really excited about this project for a lot of different reasons. Firstly this album represents the culmination of ten years of songwriting and playing. I have worked on a variety of studio projects throughout the years, but this is the first time I have been able to do an entire album. For me, I guess this marks a milestone in my music career. Not only that, but the themes I explore in my songs hold a lot of meaning and emotion. There are some clear themes throughout the songs that you'll pick up on as you listen. I just turned thirty this year and the last ten years have been truly hectic. I feel as though I've already lived a lifetime. The things I have seen and done, coupled with the craziness of modern living make me sentimental for simpler times.Besides writing songs, I also work in the field of technology. Sometimes it seems life revolves around machines, computers, advertising and television. We are constantly bombarded by images and sound, light and darkness. We need to unplug. The songs on the Stars and Oblivion record really cry out for human connection. They also cry out for a connection to God and the spiritual side of life. We invest nearly all of our time and energy in the physical side of life that the spiritual side is nearly lost under the clutter. The first song, Outer Space really opens up this idea. Sometimes it seems that God is so far away from us, that he's living in outer space somewhere and out of reach. It may not be true, but it doesn't stop us from feeling that way some days. Some of the words are, "Will you come down from outer space, why do you lock yourself away, all I need is time to unwind, and you return to outer space..."This song was written on a quiet day outside, next to the Peace River in Florida. I wrote the whole thing ...
