We can hear you kvetching already; "How many Christmas albums do I need? If you've heard one version of 'Winter Wonderland' you've heard them all." Well, you obviously haven't heard SNOWFALL. Understand this: Tony Bennett is the premier post-Sinatra interpreter of American popular song. The man couldn't turn in a bad performance if his life depended on it. So no matter how many times you've heard tunes like "The Christmas Song" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," you can be sure that when Tony tackles them, he's bringing something new to the table. He swings "My Favorite Things" like no one since Coltrane (and Coltrane didn't sing). Backed by a full orchestra, he brings his grainy intimacy to bear on the perennial "White Christmas," investing the Irving Berlin evergreen (sorry) with such tangible emotion, you'll be reaching for the tinsel in July.

I really never gave this album a chance before but it's really enjoyable - but this is the third version that's been out on CD !! Why not just record a new Christmas album instead ?

 Classic Recording
I have loved this record ever since my Grandfather has been playing it when I was a child. The only thing I wish they would have done on this reissue was keep the original album cover. The past 2 reissues have different pics of Tony on the cover. The original just seemed to capture Tony Bennet at that time and season. If anyone has the original they know what I mean. This is a classic album and will be forever.

Excellent Christmas album, poor DVD
Tony Bennett stands for class and style, and on this CD, he brings those values to the concept of the Christmas album - often tossed off as an afterthought by other great artists.
Like many of the best Christmas albums, this takes songs that are not necessarily Christmas songs, but they express Tony's own feelings about Christmas - like My Favourite Things.
The entire album is intelligent and of a high standard, but from time to time, I do get the feeling that Tony has too "cold" a voice to really do Christmas convincingly. Odd, for such a warm and pleasant man.
That said, this is an unusual and listenable CD.
The bonus DVD is appalling. At first, looking at the packaging, and seeing that it contained "selections" from a TV show that Tony did one Christmas, I cynically wondered why they had not released the whole thing - perhaps a future DVD release? After watching it, I was left wondering why they bothered at all. The acting is stilted, and the songs aren't that great either. Twenty minutes of pure cheese - this smacked of marketing, rather than true artistry. You might be better off buying the budget version of Snowfall without the DVD.

Popular songs are often associated with the vocalists that made them famous but few artists actually have the distinction of having a "theme" song along the lines of Bob Hope with "Thanks for the Memories." Even fewer can claim to have two theme songs attached to them and Andy Williams is one of those fortunate stars. After "Moon River" became forever linked to Williams, he recorded a holiday song for his first Christmas album that gave him a yuletide hit and theme song.
